I find it's interesting to hear about people's techniques for reading other players. I found this interesting website the other day that details how to read peoples eyes (to tell if they're lying). I haven't tried it yet, but you may be interested:

Of course, this doesn't work on online poker sites. What other techniques do people use?

I have tried to see certain tells. Shaky hands, the way chips are put into the pot, whether the person stares at you after making a bet or looks away, etc. The truth is that different people use these tells differently so you have to watch their overall game as well. Someone might throw their chips in across the table which usually represents a weak hand, but I have played with people who do this when they have a strong hand. I usually play pretty tight when I first sit at a table just to establish what tells people have and see how they hold up before using them when I get in a hand with that person.
Remember better players may try to act as though they are giving off tells just to get you in a huge hand.

In my home games I have atleast one read on almost everyone. There is one kid that whenever he gets a big hand his hands start to shake violently and it is just hilarious.

Interesting article! I've got a few as well:
If a guy that's constantly been talking threw the game stops talking when he's looking at his cards, he has a strong hand. If the player earlier in the game has continued chatting whilst looking at his cards just to throw them a second later, it's even clearer that he has good cards.
Look at the throat of your opponent. If you can see his pulse, he's probably bluffing.
Some of the best players doesn't dare to use shirts that isn't covering the throat.

I think that's a misconception. My pluse gets going faster when I actually have a hand, and I've heard that same comment made on TV.

If you watched the Full Tilt.net tourney Gordon's heart rate went up when he got a hand and the top guys/girls heart rates only went up a little. If you go with the fact that Gordon is real good, but not elite, then the pulse thing is definitely refuted here. I find that my heart rate goes up when I have a top hand because I'm praying that the damn thing holds up. Rockets killed 4 times in a row last night. Won the next 3 though.

problem with tells is; they are dependent on the person. Some people crack under pressure others don't. Some people stare at you when they want a call others look away. People are different so the tells aren't always reliable

Caro's book of tells identifies basically every well known tell. now obviously with various personalities there are going to be even more tells than what is discussed in the book. my fav is checking the hole cards when 2 suited cars hitthe flop. I find betting patterns provide more insight than physical movements. Be careful with the shaky hands, sometimes can eb a monster sometimes is a dead bluff, it all comes down to the players. A lot of the live games that i have been in have very obvious tells but again it comes down to the skill level in which you are involved.
