    Default new to sngs

I have been playing micro limits and have done well I want to try sngs but the rapid increase in blind structure scares me. I dont really understand the shifting gears and changing your style of play Help please

Well, I don't exactly play SNG's, but what I play is kind of similar. I say you attack throughout. They're not the big tournaments, in which you have to survive at the beginnning. You basically need to attack at all times. When you have a hand of course. Just worry about accumulating pots.

Really? I'm pretty tight in SnGs, and quite loose in Tourneys..

Well, I seem to be tighter at the beginnings of large tourneys. I do get loose as the tourney moves on. I guess my view of a SNG, is that it is the late stages of a tournament, but only 3 or 4 of the people are gonna win money. This would force someone to be agressive. I guess, that one could sit back, and wait to make a move once someone gets knocked out. However, I find that being agressive would be the best option.

I am no expert by any means, but I like to stay close to the 1500 chips that I started at and then wait until blinds are up to 75/150 and be more aggressive, I find that most players that have been aggressive in the beginning are either out already or low in chips and all-in with garbage to try a come-back. I always play the turbo blinds as I hate waiting for the large blinds to come. That's my take anyway.

you goal in the sng's is to not lose, not to win. Don't take unnecessary risks and everything you learned about pot odds goes out the window. play very tight, try to get some chips when you have monsters, but other than that you need to sit back and let them knock each other out. You will have to get more aggressive though as the blinds get bigger and there are less players so you dont blind out, but be careful.

Hmm.. I don't agree with umich guy. I often take a lot of risks, and I do quite well in SnGs.

Um, I play fairly tight starting hands but I very rarely decide to lose a pot. Most people will play loose/passive and fold to a big bet. Never enter the pot with a call after you get past like 50/100 raise to EXACTLY the same amount each time (3xBB?) If you vary your raises people will catch on to much.

well kid[red], taking risks means you're taking the chance of losing the sng, and losing gives you nothing. These risks add up, and before you know it some idiot puts a bad beat on you and you're gone. For a long time I kept track of how each of the players I was against was playing. A large majority of the players that I labeled tight made it to top 3, while the loose, shitty players were gone. Perhaps you play smarter than what the loose players im used to playing do, but in general, ive found tight players do much better.
