Ok, I've noticed I have a problem...or at least a question...
When up against another agressive player, who raises from MP, I'm sitting on the button with decent PP (99-JJ). Folds to him, he raises and it folds to me. My instinct tells me to 3bet it to drive the blinds out and get better information as to where he's at. Unfortunately, when I do this, the problem I have is when he re-raises me. Since he's also agressive, that raise could mean "You're not pushing me around".
This hand isn't a problem when overcards come on the flop, but when the flop is lower cards, and he bets out, this could be for value, or it could be a continuation bet because he was the one who capped it...Should I raise to show him I have an over pair and see where I'm at, should I call down???
If the turn and river are also lower cards, should I be raising again to show I've got the board beat, or should I call down?
I dont' have this problem against a passive player. I can raise him at anytime and if he plays back, I'm fairly sure I'm beaten. With an agressive player though, he may play back at me with AK to show that he's not afraid of me and he's got bigger stones then I.
Up to this point, I've been calling down on the flop, turn, and river unless I hit my trips or stronger. Suggestions?

Personally, I don't see how you can cold call. I think that is the worst play. It is unlikely that the SB will call with trash and even if the BB does you don't have anything close to set odds even considering the implied odds.
JJ I three bet every time. 88 I fold every time. 99 and 1010 are pretty situational for me. Depends on how confident I am at bullying the raiser out based on past history.
So I either fold or three bet. I bet/raise flop no matter what falls since pot is so big he only has to fold some of the time to be +EV.

3 bet these hands to isolate every time

As long as you figure you're ahead with these pp I believe you have to play fast and hard - any overcard is bad news (unless you triple up) so winning the hand asap should be primary motivation IMO.
I also think getting HU or as close to it as possible pre-flop should be attempted always! If he caps the bets, fine - makes for a bigger pot and if he's only got overcards vs your made pair, you're starting ahead, although I would suspect he may also have a pp of QQ, KK or AA.
On the flop I raise any opener and if he re-raises with overcards on the board, it's probably fold time or maybe one more draw hoping for trips. If he re-raises my raise, I'm think big pocket pair and looking to call it down or fold.
With these hands I think aggression is your best play - unless you flop a set, then you change gears until the turn before lowering the hammer.
