    Default Trapping Question...

Im assuming that Joescholar was trying to trap me by just checking the flop. But Im not sure if this is great play with just a overpair. I dont think giving me a free card is a smart play, the board has 2 daimonds, and 34 connected. Personally I think he needs to bet at least 50-80% of the pot here. And his turn pot bet is even worse, his check at the flop lead me to think he was on a draw at the turn and was trying to semi-bluff. He should have ended it here with possible flush, straights showing I dont see why he would take the risk of losing this pot. Id bet double the pot here, win it, get yourself back to even in the headups.

I was just wondering when do you guys think it is a good time to try and trap with just a overpair?

never imo. if trapping with OP you saying u: want him to make an ok hand, but for that hand to be less than op (usualy like top pair). The non-betting by you will allow him to improve his 2nd ot toppair evryonce in a while into a hand that will beat you AA or KK.

Maybe in heads up calling pf instead of raising, or calling his raise and not re-raising. but on flop im a fan of betting pot.

Me heads up: 90% i raise pf with AA-88. when flop is all under cards i bet pot 90% of time. Dont really like flirting with thier possible draws.
I get more ass than a toilet seat. All shapes/colors/sizes.

depends on the situation. I would never give a free card with flush/str8 possiblities on the board. Make them pay to draw. I may do it if the board rainbow uncordinated. This was just a horrible play by him for his cards. Calling when the 3rd diamond falls and you went all in was just stupid IMO. He was probably betting (calling) that you didn't have the flush, not realizing that with the J falling, there were a bunch of other hands you could have held that also beat him. He was right, you didn't have the flush, Kudos to his read.

Heads up any pair is typically enough to win the hand. I will often trap with top pair or an overpair heads up. Especially against an extremely aggressive opponent who is prone to make all in moves.

I am either going to bust him or go home.
