Online Tells vs crappy players
Befor i started playing online i was like "hell no, i can only play live, online there is no info beside's person's bet"
Wll i have picked up a few tells from my short hand games. And im sure if you play over .5-1nl these tells will suck.
1. slight delay in reaction to a card
This is usually when im in a HU cash game. The opponent usually cheks or bets turn/river/flop with consistant timing (say .2 secons after the card hits) but many times they will hesitate for .05-.1 seconds when a nice card hits. usually their delayed reaction in cheking or betting, tells me something is up.
2. also in HU when a tigh/weak/shitty (sorry i dont know whats that called LL?) decides to raise pf (after showing that he limps with QQ, AK..) pretty much tells me he gunna try to take this pot down no matter what. if they uncharacteristicly bet hard on flop, i dont take it for top pair or protecting op.
3. HU also i guess.
Flop: 6KK, i chek and he bets the pot. Usually a novice player with K would slow play this hand, so if he fits the profile, i assume he dosnt have k. If he is fairly smart, i will smooth call his bets representing a slow play.
im not sure if these were tells or reads or watever, but the first two really help me beat players when i play HU.

hesitations online can be very misleading - especially if the player is on two or more tables. A lot of players deliberately delay to give off an impression of weakness while others delay wondering how to extract the most in bets from the rest of the table.
By all means use these 'tells' but online they can be real, induced or just the time it takes to make the decison. I don't put overly much stock in delays and hestitations.

Not to mention the delays from people who are multi-tabling, or who have a slow connection.

no, i mean when im playing HU and we are flying through hands at fast rate, and i notice a fraction of a second difference in his click, like .05 or 1/10th of second.
long delays are a good tactic to make them think you are thinking (when slow playing a nice hand i will take extra 6-10 seconds "thinking). hence they can be desieving.
If there is no "deafault reaction time" due to multi task, multiple tables, poor connectiuon, i wont give a minor delay any credit.

Ohhhhh, you mean like the time it takes to set down a cup of coffee or switch hands to scratch yourself. Now I get it!

i don't really agree with the points made by the topic starter here.
however i play on pacific poker mostly. and there is an option to 'check / fold in turn' which you can click at any time after a card was just laid. if you suspect a player uses this alot as they appear to fold automatically pre-flop or post-bet at any point. and say on the flop i check and they auto-check as it was. i normally see it as weak. as when online player slow play they take time to think whether they SHOULD be slow playing and won't use the 'check / fold' option.
seems to work for me a fair bit anyway.

I use the check fold a lot myself, but I balance this by using the auto check button when I want to slow play the nuts. pretty effective trick

The long delay followed by a bet is a pretty good tell that it's a weak player who is acting to show weakness but has a monster. I don't always trust it, but I'm not going to call down with marginal holdings.
Someone who normally plays quick but suddenly hesitates a bit before a check or bet usually means strength as well. I've put a few people on sets in multiway pots this way that turned out to be right.
Online tells though are very marginal... I'm not laying down TPTK because of one... just if it's a marginal call anyway I may use one in making a decision.

That whole take 15 seconds to bet teh river because I have the nuts and they'll think I'm bluffing thing is so obvious. 9/10 if someone does that I'm beaten, I've done it myself a few times when I haven't had the best hand and been called though so many its only me lol.
