Axs is essentially a hand that wants the nut flush. Hitting both pair is a secondary target and hitting an A is risky at best. Good situations are no raises and many limpers so position is not that important. Of course first in and late position usually calls for a raise. I would call in the SB obviously with only limpers and call a raise if the pot had the right odds. I would probably always call a raise in the BB.
If the flop hits two of the suit, we are in business. If it doesn't, I tread carefully. With no A or any of my suit, I'm check/folding. Depending on the table, I probably also check/fold if I hit bottom pair. If an A hits, you really have to be careful of being outkicked. If the flop is checked around, it is usually unlikely that anybody has an A. Hitting two pair is obvious. If I hit the lower pair and there is a backdoor flush, I might call one bet.
I think this hand is easier to play PF. It's when you are in for a flop that you can get into trouble chasing the nut flush or being outkicked on top pair.

In limit, I will play AXs in mid to late position if I'm fairly certain I wont be raised. Just ask yourself "do I want to call a raise pre-flop with this"... if the answer is no then you know what to do.
As someone stated previously your goal is to hit a flush. If you flop an ace with 2+ others in the pot, you have a good chance of being dominated depending on what your X is. If you choose to go ahead with your possibly dominated ace (in limit) I tend to go the check/call route. If someone raised preflop and the board is scary, its not a crime to dump it.Last edited by Operator; 11-10-2005 at 12:16 PM.

i play in low limit nlhe.. and i play AXs in middle and late positions.. if thers at least 2-3 limpers before me, and i think that no one's gonna raise it preflop..
basically ur only playing for the flush.. or a flop like AA9..
on the flop: ur in late position, and u flop the flush draw.. if everyone checks to you.. then bet the potsize.. but, if someone bets in early and someone calls, and u get good pot odds, then chase..
also if u hit a flop like A 10 4.. and ur in late/middle position.. and everyone checks it to you.. then bet the potsize.. thats why its always better to play AXs in late position so that u can see what the other people do first preflop.. just incase u hit a flop like the above.
if u get called down in this case, then just slow down on the turn and river..
check/call if its not too costly for you or if u improve on the turn/river (e.g. u make a 2 pair)..
or check/fold.. if a A falls on the turn or river (A 10 4 A) and my opponent bets out strongly.. then im folding my AXs depending on how low the kicker is
