Default Coverting to Cash from Sng

Okay I've been playing poker online for about 9 months and I've broken even (Still learning really). I've been playing Sng mostly with the odd MTT. I tend to have good spells where I find myself a couple of hundred dollars up and then spells where absolutely nothing with hit. I've decided playing sng is not goingto fullfill my ambition of $20 average profit a day for teh next 12 months. So I'm moving on to ring games. My reasoning is this: Calling an all in bet at EV+ in a sng can put you out of the game whereas calling all in EV+ in a cash game is a no brainer. Also I tried it for the first time ther other day and made $50 in a little over an hour against extremely loose players. I figure I'll start at .10/.20c NL, see how I get on - current role is about $250. I've had a good couple of days where the $20 target was reached then yesterday I lost $40 in an hour.

The reason for this thread is to really see if anyone can offer me some advice on my transition to ring games?

Also 3-tabnling for a few hours a day at this limit sound realistic for a $20 profit target? obviously I expect to be down some days so the $20 is an average over say 4 weeks.

All sensible replies welcomed.

say 4 BB/100 hands at 60 hands per hour over 3 tables gives you .40 * 3 * (60/100) * 4 * x = 20 where x is the number of hours played. it yields about 7 hours per day

I did a search of the forum as suggested in many post for bankroll management but all the result are posts suggesting that you do a search of the forum for bankroll management lol.

$20 a day doesn't seem that unrealistic to me, I'm not playing limit. if I 4 table I only need to make $5 per table - with really tight play I can do this in about90-120 minutes on average i reckon, no??

Poker's quite a high variance game - you may make the $20 a day - but only averaged over 20k hands. On a day to day basis you could easily be 100bb up or down.. i.e $40 up or down.

Interestigly - I make more money on SnGs' as opposed to pure ring. You can get through 6 $5+0.5 in an hour - the cash flow is stronger and because you have to cope with a range of changing conditons its easier to exploit weak players. I don't like Sngs... but I play them for a change occasionally.

In ring - you need a great deal of patience and it's only at $0.5/$1 and above - when you can fully exploit bonses ad rakeback-that it starts to pay.

I'n not bad at Sng but I finish one place off teh money far to often and its the difference between making a profit or a loss. Also I play at VCpoker and it doesn't seem to be the best place for STT, the standard seems higher than it is at other sites.

There are more SnG experts here.. but my guess is that you need to get aggressive quite a bit earlier - use your stack more - be prepared to bust out -if you have a 50/50 on it is better to take it and double up than bust out.. In fact busting out has the advantage that you can start up a new SnG immediatley

there are much harder sites than VC for SnGs.

I don't think you should set yourself a per day goal for earnings. You haven't been playing long, just try to play your best and show a consistant profit.

Hmmm... Not sure about this... Haven't read the rest of the posts. I'm sure someone has picked it apart. But get aggressive earlier? Without getting into real strategy and speaking generally... Tight it right, tighter is better. Howard Lederer has an article at Full Tilt Poker rationalizing and commenting on SnG strategy. But generally speaking, I disagree with getting loose earlier. And ya you can hop into a new SnG. For $6. Keep doing that I'm sure you'll find poker a profitless venture if you looka t it that way.
