Ok, I want to work a little on re-buy tournament strategy. I almost never enter the dang things, but it's the 6th annual 49er Gold Rush tournament ($365K total prize pool guaranteed) coming up, and there was a really interesting "super" satellite at our local casino where you'd win a seat to the 3 NL events (each different buy in).
Problem was that it's a 100 person field, the blinds start at 25-50 and you only get $500 in chips for an M of 6.7!! Unlimited Re-buys when you're under $500 in chips, double rebuy if you bust out (1k), and a $1k add on after level 4 (1 = 25/50, 2=50/75, 3=50/100, 4=75/150, 15 min rounds).
So my strategy was this: Gamble big with the first $500 (all in with AT-AK, PP of 88-AA, fold anything else), if I bust out do a double rebuy and then try and play a little more conservatively. Buy in was $40+15, rebuys were $40/500 chips, ad on was $40/1000 chips.
BTW, this was my first live tourney in a couple months (I think), and I got a day off the campaign, so I just couldn't resist.
What do folks think about this strategy?

Re-buy Tournament strategy

blinds two damn high. If you double your stack they will still be too high. Also the pace @ live game slower, so the blind structure too damn fast.
I get more ass than a toilet seat. All shapes/colors/sizes.

Yeah, the tourney was the craziest I've ever been in. People were busting out and double rebuying like mad.
First hand, I pick up AT 3 off the button. Folds around to me, and I'm playing my gambling style and go all in (what else could I do with an M of 6.7?).
The cutoff calls, and flips over AKs. Ug.
So I did my double rebuy, and tried to play my game. Finished better than 1/2 the field (some guys did like 5 or 6 double rebuys!).. . but really just played for fun. Knew it would be crazy but like I said haven't had an opportunity to play a live one lately and was craving.

If you do any good, I'd love to know the secret. I can't seem to make the final table more than 40% of the time.

my strategy for rebuys is to play looser than i do usually, especially in the earlier stages. Remember that the gap concept is not as wide because there are a great many players who will play marginal hands aggressively. If you have a lower than average stack dont be afraid to add on yourself.

Push in with Ax. WHat else are you going to do? I have been in tourneys like that before, and the will only create bad habits. My suggestion, find another tournament to play in, youll be lucky to hit 20-25 hands per hour in a tourney like that which gives you 1/2 an hour to triple you stack to have a chance.
