Default Books I haven't read yet

Ok, just some random thoughts since I'm taking 2 days off from the tables (completely off, not the typical Steve-O 5 hours instead of 7 off )

I have Small Stakes Hold Em on the way. I perused it in the bookstore and didn't really like what I saw + I disagree with a lot of what Ed Miller has to say on 2+2, but given all the good reviews by people on here I'm gonna give it a go.

I have SS2 and haven't even cracked it open once yet. I might get to this but I doubt it

I just bought Zen Poker today, basically because I was bored and plan on reading it tonight. Looks like a quick easy read anyway.

I also bought Play Poker like the Pro's which I never even looked at before and have to say I'm pleasantly surprised with what I've read so far. He doesn't give a set in stone way to play but explores many options especially in the Omaha 8 section which I really wish was bigger.

Also bought Tolkiens Lost Tales of Middle Earth and a Biography of Ivan the Terrible. Then proceeded to spend $300 on clothes and $100 at the grocery store.

All I can say is I need to stop taking days off they cost me too much money

I think the biggest problems you have with SS2 come from differences in the games.

Ed Miller has said that most internet games are tighter than what he wrote the book for.

He definetly is talking about low limit Live Hold Em or micro-limit online poker.

But he and I have 1 major theoretical difference, he believes small mistakes are ok to a certain extent and you can quantify how severe they are. I believe mistakes early on, no matter how small, are big mistakes overall as they lead to more and more mistakes.

I use a chaos theory model for pre-flop play; a small seemingly insignificant mistake will branch out into more mistakes which at the end can spell ruin.

But with so many people playing this style now I should bone up on it anyway

Tahts why I dont like books that come up with a very precise strategy. (system)

    I prefer theory oriented.

I agree with you KingJack I definetly prefer theory books. To take it one step further I actually have a hard time reading strategy books or even articles anymore.

I use to read cardplayer magazine, every article, every issue, now I barely read one article from any particular issue. It either has some strategy I already know and use or something that I don't completely agree with (since it has to have some merit I don't completely discount what they write)

ssh was probably a waste because you already know 99% of the book... it's just talkikgn about free cards/pot odds/not much ADVANCED stuff

I actually think that if you read 2+2 SS limit you are pretty much reading ssh since they explain all of the concepts of the book on every hand posted.
