Default AK 2 shorter stack allins - Call or fold?

About 90 minutes into a $20/2 MTT 700+ people.

Neither of the allins have done anything fishy so far and appear to be decent players.

What's your move and what's your thinking?

Personally I would call this. First off one probably has ace anything. another a pocket pair. The call wont break you if you dont catch but thats just me.

There is a very good chance that the all-in is desperation, the push seems like an isolation play as he also probably knows that the all-in was desperation, so I think you push here. There is no particular reason to put either one on super-premium cards like AA KK and seems like a good chance to get alot of chips with a great hand. I push this.

You are generally around 36% to win in these spots.

With no antes, that isn't much overlay from the pot.

This is a close one to me, but I would generally call. Bust prof and you at least break even.

I think I'd fold this one here. Tice's all in could be desperate but for the proffessor to come over the top and go all in when he isn't in deep blinds trouble is a strong move. To beat 2 people in this situation is probably no better than about 1 in 3. It is too early to start risking half your stack with in this situation. There will probably be better opportunities to come

Default what you do is

call..

you have no choice here. You are still a long way from the money with a stack which is probably average.

As Bonc says you're up against a weaker ace a pp or combination thereof.

You are unlikely to find yourself in a much better situation to
1] knock two ppl out
2] give your stack a boost

Even if you get AA or KK later on there is no gaurantee that you will get callers and actually you dont have the stack to wait around for 100 hands.

You stand a good chance of losing. AK doesn't hold up well in mutliway pots - but at this stage you have to call. If you bust - simply join another MTT or SnG to make up the opportunity cost.

Winning MTTS is about taking on a series of high value coin flips - everything else is propganda or a bonus....

I don't know if I could fold this. Odds are too good that you're probably holding a higher than 1/3 chance to win this pot. The second guy pushing with 10 bbs makes it really hard to tell. Toss up in my mind, I wouldn't call either a bad play but I'd personally be inclined to call

I'd forgotton about this one.

I'd better finish the hand for you chaps.

I folded and Tice turned ATo which was a surprise and ProfFrn turned AQo.

The board showed the case Ace but nothing else of relevance.

If either of them had shown the slightest loose tendancy I would have called, but both were giving the appearance of rocks and I suspected I was up against a pocket pair and Ax, with a real possibility of AA or KK from the caller.

Later in the MTT I'd call this in a flash but I in the first two hours I tend not to worry to much about stack size if I'm on or above the average, you can lose a tourney early but not win it. If I had less of a stack I'd also have called it in a flash.

My view in this situation was that the risk and effect of losing 1600 chips was greater than the benefit of gaining 2400 at this stage of the MTT given my stack size.

Having said all that I could see myself calling in exactly the same situation.

Another factor is how I feel I'm playing and whether I "need" to take risks or not early in the tourney.

Long post, thanks for the input folks

(not relevant but I made the money though not the final table)

giving away secrets...

As soon as your stack hits average you have to push AK.. if your stack gets too small you end up having to do more all-ins on marginal hands

Your choice:

1] 1 all-in on a marginal hand with average stack early
or
2] Two all-ins with two marginal hands with smaller stack later

to win the same amount of money..

Ok if you want to extend your enjoyment of the tournament then well and good.. You might even get AA or KK (odds are against it).
