To suck out or be sucked out is the question
I don't have any examples of this but you all have been there. You have an "almost" nut hand after the flop so you slow play it based on the # of players, your image of them and the board. Then the un thinkable happens and after the turn, the board starts to get sketchy and then the river comes and now your worst fears have come true. Or you just get side swiped instead, either way you start thinking why did I slow play that even though it was probably the right move to suck out as much money you could. This has caused my game to suffer I think since I was and still on such a bad losing streak. The last 3 out 4 times after flopping the nut straight (at the moment) I lost on the river to a higher straight, 2 flushes and a boat. I can't blame the guy that got a boat on the river since he flopped trip 8's. The other suck outs were a different story. I don't slow play trips unless there the nuts or I have an Ace or King high flush but come on.
So I start thinking no free cards anymore and the hell with sucking out. I'm just going to take down whatever pot I can when I have such a hand instead of risking the suck out. Then when I win I change my mind and think, I could have made more money if I didn't re raise and then bet out after the turn. Either way I'm getting screwed it seems, make little or lose with a made hand. You gotta make decent cash on your good hands to offset your -EV situations. So what are you guys doing when this shit happens to you?
Thanks
