At the first table of a MTT today. 5 players I recognize, two who I consider to be amongst the best that play at this location. One of these is sitting two seats to my left.
I'm playing my usual game. I raise it with AK and take it down with a bet on the flop. A while later I get AQ, and raise to 2.00 (.50 cent blinds). The guy on my left re-raises all-in! (he has a big stack, probably up to about 20, while I'm at around 13). I say "reraising all in?" and he replies "Gonna try some of YOUR moves today," lol... I didn't realize I was considered THAT aggressive... but I fold. (found out later he had 99)
I win two hands, eliminating one player when my JJ holds up against his 99 on a low flop. Then, in the small blind, I get K9o. I raise it to 2 bucks on a blind steal, and this guy, immediately to my left now, again re-raises all-in. Of course, I have to fold. (he had QQ)
Not too much later, I get dealt AKo. With blinds at .50/1 now, I raise it to 4 bucks with a limper in front of me. Again, my man pushes all his chips in. He hasn't done this on any other hands today, but it's the third time he did it to one of my raises. I couldn't let him keep pushing me off my raises, so I felt like I had to call and did. His KK held up and I was out of the tourney.
Now... how would you guys deal with this situation? It seems like one guy thinks you're weak, and is going out of his way to challenge you? I felt like I had to make that call, even though I knew it was a poor play. Tips would be appreciated![]()

Can't really argue against that call, since you're only a dog to AA and KK.

You are also a dog to any pair down to 22.

So far your opponent has played fairly conservative and has showed you two pocket pairs (QQ, 99) when he has made this play. So you would have to put him on aa-77, Ak, AQ. Odds are that he has another pocket pair so your are a little less than a coinflip dog.
At that point it's all about the math.....Is the pot offering you a little better than even money to make the call. Any re-raise less than $20 is giving you about 1.3 or better on your call which is about what you need the pot odds to be laying you to go ahead and make the call.Last edited by Jackemy; 08-22-2005 at 09:11 AM.

I agree with Jackemy...every time he did this in the past hands he showed down a strong hand.....
I would not be calling here with AK. unless I was getting really good odds and had an M in the danger zone.

I found out what he had on the previous hands at a later time, so that didn't factor into my thinking. I was pretty sure he was probably doing it with middle pairs... and didn't want to call off my whole stack on, at best, a coinflip.
I probably should have just let it go... I mean, he's not gonna KEEP getting pocket pairs when I have AK... and he could very well have made the same play into my AA or KK if he had kept doing it.

I make this call. If its gonna make him think twice next time he tried to resteal me id gladly take my possible coin flip with AK. Just got unlucky that u ran into a hand i make this call too.

Oh, he was the chip leader at the table, and I was third. Of course, by this point we were down to 6 players as the fish got swallowed up ... and the other tables were going slow and not knocking people out quick enough to break the table up.

guys guess what? i'm useless... i thought it was good advice,, the dealer dealt the dude the cards, and the dude knew he was getting lucky... so punching both of them seems reasonable.. but the call was nessicary, i wouldn't even think about it. You needed to make a stand and here was your best chance..
