Playing O8b 1$/2$ limit on Pokerstars
this is about my 10th hand at the table so I don't have much of a read on the other players.
I'm in the BB and get dealt,

a hand I definately would want to see a flop with but don't want to get too heavily invested pre-flop.
UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, MP1 folds, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, MP4 folds, button calls, SB calls, Hero checks.
The Flop:
![]()
![]()
*nailed that flop, nut low draw, nut flush draw and an inside str8 draw*
SB checks, hero bets, UTG raises, UTG+1 folds, MP2 calls, MP3 raises, button caps, SB folds, everyone calls it down.
The turn:
*Bingo, hit my str8 and have the nut low*
Hero bets, UTG calls, MP2 raises .25(and is all in), MP3 raises, button calls, Hero raises, UTG calls, MP3 caps, and everyone calls.
The river:
*gah, bad card. At this point I'm pretty sure that I am chopping the low and now a bigger str8 is out there*
Hero decides to check, UTG checks, MP3 bets, everyone including Hero flat calls.
Results to follow. Did I screw up the river by not jamming the pot? or was a flat call the right play? I am trying to get better, I want to know if my river play was a mistake?

Would you have played this differently?

Well... I think I jam it here...
the only hand that beat u is 9-j, and he have to have another hand or draw to cap the turn and flop with it. So I guess you take 3/4 ot that pot.

Definitely raise that river.
I wouldn't worry that much about the higher straight... J9 is a pretty bad drawing hand to play on that flop. It's possible that it's out there, but you can still win the low even if someone has J9. Being quartered with your low isn't the end of the world... in a five-way pot, it's still profitable. In order for this raise to go wrong, you need to be up against a J9 and two other A3s. So just raise... more often than not, it'll make you money."Last night I stayed up late playing poker with tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died."

Yeah I'm playing this fast.
If you get quartered so be it you'll lose an extra $2 at the most. if you have 3/4s though you'll win $3-6. I'd take my chances that I'm getting 3/4s here.

I realised I screwed this one up on the river as soon as the hand finished, with the second best hand high and the best low I should have jammed and it may or may not have been capped. Odds are good that I would have taken at least 1/4 of the pot and more than broke even regardless.
I ended up taking the high, with my str8 6,7,8,9,10
The low was split 3 ways, with two others having an A,3
I ended up with 2/3 of the pot, however I felt really stupid for leaving potentially another 5-10$ out there. Well, I learned from my weak play and hopefully I won't make mistakes like that again. I suppose my weak play was partially due to getting seriously burned on another hand I made a previous post on (which I actually played right and got nothing, this one I played wrong and made a big payout :rockpoker )
Thanks for the input and making me realize I was as big of a boob as I thought I was.

I had a feeling it was going to get 1/6d, man I hate that.

Keep in mind that on the flop, J9 wasn't even a straight draw; it was a backdoor possibility that you'd have to be braindead to play (unless you had a lot of other draws working for you).

A key point is also that there are 2 people to act ahead of you on this street, so even if your straight has been beat a lot of times, you'll profit half a bet and many others 1.5. The only time that you'll lose a bet or two on the river by playing fast is when you're straight is beat AND the lo is tied. The "and" lowers your percentage of loss here substantially to justify fast river play here.
