Default Recent Cash Game Experience In Atlantic City

I was playing in another 2/4 game in Atlantic City in a fairly tough game. We were 11 handed again with three good players, three terrible players, and five in between. We were playing for about an hour when a new player entered the game. If I remember correctly, she picked up 5 pots with straights and flushes. This was costly for me since I had AA cracked once and trip K's cracked on another hand. While taking a break, I tried to figure where I had gone wrong. Replaying the hands this new player had won in my mind, I figured that she was deliberately playing drawing hands (connectors, one gaps, and suited Kings and Aces) to crack big pairs and trips. Returning to the game, I decided to increase my awareness of draws when in pots with this woman. With a bit of luck and skill, another player and I took all of her checks in about an hour and a half. She kept on calling raises when on a draw and missed here draws in several big pots.
While her strategy was interesting, her downfall was that she was predicable. If she had switched gears and started playing big cards, we would have been hard pressed to figure out what she was holding. In short, the game was an interesting lesson in playing an opponent using an unconvential strategy.

I think you are giving her too much credit.

It is more likely if she had a draw she would call regardless of what you might hold. I like to call these players calling stations or simply fish, not a player trying to crack big hands with draws.

This is not an unconventional strategy it is simply someone chasing.

    Hi Steve-

I'm not sure that I'm giving this player too much credit. During the entire game, the hands that she showed were suited Aces and Kings, connectors and one gaps. That's what made me think that this was a deliberate strategy. If I catch her in another game, I can see if this pattern repeats.

Pretty much the same thing happen to me in AC a few weeks back at a 2/4 table, everyone was playing hit to win - They didnt care about a 2 bet or a 4 bet, raise, whatever, they would chase chase chase - Sucks and is frustrating, but nobody forced me to sit at the table and stay, I should have left, o well. - Just my two cents.

i used to play 3/6 at the casino near me but i can't handle it when you are in the bb with aces and 6 limpers behind you but all you can do is raise 3 dollars and everyone behind you calls cause they are already in for 3, if i play limit there now i play 5/10 where they respect the raises alittle more
If there wern't luck involed i guess id win everyone

I agree. I hate when I get action on my aces. I'd much rather have everyone fold.

    Hi Greedo-

I was wondering where you were playing in AC when you were playing against loose callers chasing big hands. For whatever reason, the Tropicana 2/4 games seem to be largely populated by some of the tightest rocks I have ever played with. In any event, you are quite correct that no one is forcing us to sit down. If my bankroll were a bit bigger, I might try to move up to 10/20.

    Best Regards,

    Hi

Last time in AC I played at Ceasars - 2/4 - 95% of the people saw the flop. I had a set of K's buster by someone chasing a flush and got runner runner - UNREAL. O well. I also played at Ballys, and it was the same deal.

Time before that I played at the Taj, and did very well there. Seems people repsect bets a little more. I havent tried the Borgata yet though.

Where were you besides the Trop? By the way I played in a tourney there, didnt do so well, but stayed in for about 2 hours, had fun.

I live in Philadelphia, and I get down to AC to play in a live cardroom whenever I can. Over the last year, I've had about 20 sessions down there.

The games that you are describing are gold mines, in my opinion. If you play solid poker, you should be taking home a profit almost every time out. There's no question that you are going to be outdrawn by hands that you would never play, but when your cards hold up, all that action lets you drag in some pretty big pots.

BTW, the loose games that you are describing are not limited to $2/$4. As you would probably expect, I saw the same kind of action at $3/$6. After winning consistently at that level, I felt that I was ready to move up to $6/$12, and I expected the competition to be a little better there. It's not. The game is just as loose. After five $6/$12 sessions, I've won each time and am up over $1,200 at that level.

I play mostly at the Borgata. I think it's the nicest cardroom in AC. You should check it out. Good luck.
