    Default transition

I've been playing for about 6months on PS and I've went from a 50$ BR to about a steady 650+ now... playing mostly 50$+ buyin tournaments... now the thing is I learned how to play with a bunch a friends, and we have a weekly game going with low stakes ( no limit 20+2 ) and I've been running into the same problem over and over... im so used to playing good players on PS... playing an aggressive/semi-tight game... ( I'll limp in on any pocket if position gives... and so on ) now I'm playing under average people who limp in or fallow any bet or almost, now how do I adjust playing bad players that are incredibly loose? Most people say play only premium hands and really tight... but even then... when I see a A44 flop no flush on the board and im holding big slick and I raised 4xBB preflop... I dont expect seeing a 47 unsuited from my opponent.... how do you guys manage playing against bad players??

    any input appreaciated :good:

You play tight-aggressive, waiting for big hands and playing them strongly.

Sure, bad beats will happen, but bad beats always happen. You just have to live with it.

    Default rule of thumb

Against very loose passive (even mildly aggressive) you tend to lose more hands but more than compensate by winning bigger pots.

Push hard with strength in the first instance and after a few rounds see what value ppl put on Top pair. One trick is to slow play TPTK into them from early. This means playing stuff like AJ early in the knowledge that a really loose table will give you pot odds (i.e you'll get four or five callers). On loose tables AQ and above is usually a raise so you can get out of trouble early if one of the tighter players raises late. If a looser player raises late - stay in... and wait for the late bluff if you hit. (be careful if you hit the ace...).

Loose tables over value top pair at the expense of the kicker.. exploit it... They also give you pot odds for more exotic hands like QJ suited.

4bb raise pretty standard. On loose tables I prefer minimum raises across Ax where x>T anf KQ- there are some very good reasons for doing this. In fact you're trying to keep ppl in rather than knock them out -but a full discussion of this is very long.

How does the table respond to an all-in from you ?.. This is vital. AA KK will pay handsomely as long as you are not viewed as the table rock..

In the absence of any rake its worth getting involved in the game.. play out TPTK - go for the odd draw - implied odds can justify this although pot odds often don't. In fact you'll just be shuffling money around - but this can help if when you get a killer hand..

If you just play the nuts or trips - you will be putting down all but two hands an hour - on the net- with high table turnover - you can do this - If you're sitting down with people I don't imagine you can.......

First advice would be to not play so high. You are really pushing your luck playing that high with that bank.

This led me to ask a question that I posted in a different thread....see "SNG Bankroll requirements" in poker strategy................

As far as playing against your average group of limpers who watches ESPN and just has to be in every hand I agree that you have to play a tight aggressive style. Raise your starting hand requirements........when you get a premium hand, raise your opening raise standards....you just won't chase out trash hands with a basic 2 or 3X BB raise.

The only loosening of my standards is suited connectors and low pocket pairs because my payoff is enormous when I hit and I don't really fear a lot of raises PF because everyone just limps in the pot. Here I will play lower connectors from earlier position....you will end up doing a lot of check/folding, but payoffs will be nice.

Pay extra attention to what people are raising with. You will see a lot of hands shown down because these types typically make min bets and can't chase their opponent....good information on raising standards can be had......a lot of raising any ace or any 2 paint cards. This should help you lock down reads when you are trying to play one of your premium hands.

I have been playing a lot of live "friendly" games lately and just dominate them. Although a friend of mine who played in this years World Series is joining my monthly game, so my win rate should be going down shortly......i am kind of looking forward to the challenge.....interesting dynamic watching the two of us ganging up on the fish.

Well I almost always finish in the money, it's been working form so far and I don't see myself changing the money aspect approach any time soon, it's more in the friendly games that I have a hard time... but yes good input guys.

Realistically, you can't expect to finish ITM more than 40% of the time.

It will also be possible to go on a 7-10 game losing streak. Be careful, I would hate to see you back at $50.
