Since this has been a topic oif recent discussion, I thought throw an example out there. Player in question is new, and have no info on them. My rep (I think) at least by my PT stats is vTPA for this session (10 vpip, 4PFR, Infinite Post flop aggression, 50% W$SD, 22% Wsd), IS this a bluff or a value bet? And ignore the bad PF call.

I'd Say
its a bluff...the only hand that calls you is a hand that has you beat, and if your opponent has 2 big cards he can be pretty sure he has you beat. The problem is if he has a bigger pair but smaller than a 10 then it looks like a value bet, its like you're saying call me. I think its just a very deceptive bet, a bit dirty...I like it.

The only hand I see that raises there and bets the flop that has you beat is A5s. AK/AQ probably plays like that, so I think you're good here. Any pairs 22-77 are dumping on the turn most likely, and I don't see those raising PF. AT raises the turn, while A3 would 3bet the flop(at least I would, big pot already). I'm 3betting with JJ-KK.
You're ahead. Value bet.

It can't really be a value bet, as there are not enough hands he can call you with to create value (unless he is the type to call just because).

BTW, PF, that short handed and only being in the SB, that PF call sucks.

You would definetly get a call from AK and AQ type hands enough times to make it not a stone cold bluff.
My hunch would be i have the best hand so you are in essence value betting, but you will rarely get called.Read my musings on poker and life at Online Poker Examiner, Poker Examiner, PokerNewsBoy.com, and My Poker Blog

Wierd one
I think with the p/flop raise the only way the opponents could have caught the flop is through the ten.had someone caught the ten though they surely would have raised to protect top pair/find out where they are.by just calling it seemed they had over cards and were just trying to draw on the river, which was a blank.while i think you were still ahead,it could also be argued that you would only get called by a better hand.was it a value bet?i just dont know!

I'm going to show my newbieness here I'm sure...I think it's a value bet. I would put his play on an overcard/flush draw. Since neither hit, I would think I am sitting best right now. The only thing that may scare me is the bet on the flop.
The only cards I see him holding that would make this a bluff would be pocket 6s or 7s in which case it's a bad play on his part. Not knowing the player, I couldn't know if he would PF raise with those hands. If I am him I would probably fold on the turn with those hands given the check/raise on the flop I would have to put you on a higher pair.
Your table image isn't that important because he's new so he doesn't have a good read on you either. If I'm counting the bets correctly then he's got the odds on the turn to draw out to the flush (If that's what he's doing). IMHO, he can't really think he's beat if he's sitting on Jacks or better. Either way, great play.Trons
