    Default Bankroll/Profit

    Multi-part question

In between NL and Limit ring games, what are the bankroll requirements? I was going on about 200 BB for limit and about 10 max buy-ins for NL (around 1,000 Big Blinds).

Now, what are considered average win rates for a solid player in each of those games? I've heard about 10 BB (big bets or big blinds?) / 100 in NL, and about 2 BB in Limit.

Finally, which is better for overall profit? I did some math and figured with my starting 250, I could play .10/.25 NL for about 2.50/ hour or .50/1 Limit for about 2.00 / hour.

Thanks for working with me guys

The game that you play better, is almost always going to be more profitable. If you're not a strong limit player, maybe 1.5bb/100 is all you'll be able to do. Post your win rates, not waht you have heard.

I would... if I had my information here I'm currently forcably away from home until September without any way of playing.

When I started I was just putting money in dribs and drabs, going up some, going down some... playing a lot of sit 'n goes to get the hands in for practice. I started playing NL ring games with a very small bankroll (50 bucks) towards the end, and had worked that up to about 300 bucks in about two weeks... but I don't remember what my actual rate was. I had just assumed I would go back to playing the NL games... but wanted to figure out if limit may be more profitable (especially since I can comfortably play more tables at once)

Sorry for ignorant posts bonch... I'm just getting exited about being able to play poker again soon

    bad streaks and profiatble tables

When you figure out your Winrate and SD (keep good records!!!, you can do it per session as long as your sessions are about the same length, but per hour is better, and per 100 hands is best) You will figure out what your BR req's are.

Basically, you need 250 (for 4 bb/100) and 300 (for 2bb/100) in limit, and 2,000-2,500 in NL. These are just to keep you from going broke. And never be afraid to step down a limit.

NL: 2,000-3,000 BB is needed, especially if you are a new player. It's very possible to lose 10 buyins in one session to either bad play or bad luck(or both).

Also, if you play loose you need a bigger bankroll because the variance is huge. For winrates, 5PTBB/100 is average, 10PTBB/100 is crushing.

    PTBB= Poker Tracker Big Bet(Big blind x 2 = 1 Big bet)

Also, when I start playing again and keeping my new records (I figured since it's the first time I'm going to try playing seriously I would start poker tracker from that point)

How many hands should I look at before I have an idea of a win-rate... and should I switch between games to see which is more profitable, or play a lot of one and then try a lot of another?

Ok, i'm going to assume this is online first of all. If it isn't online, just tell me to STFU in your next post.

Having said that, if you are into playing poker for profit, why not play a live game thats not raked? Unless you live in like Iowa (if you do, no offense) you should be able to find a poker game in the nearest big city.

At first I didn't believe that there would be that many un-raked live games, but if you look online you should easily be able to find some.

I live in Houston and over weekend I found 4 poker games that I COULD have gone to (only went to two of them), 2 tournaments, 2 cash games. I would think that if you are that serious about poker you could make alot more money playing in live games cause A: theres no rake and B: about half of the people you will meet just play for fun (or because their friends invited them), and finally C: its alot harder to cheat in a live game, you need signs and signals in a live game, in online poker you need MSN messenger.

If you live in Houston (maybe even in Dallas) I could tell you some places where there will be games. If you live anywhere else, a place like meetup.com or yahoo groups (MSN groups?) Poker chat rooms, alot of poker forumns... any of these places could probably tell you where to find a poker game.

    Anyways, thats my rant.

Your not going to find any live unraked (rake or seat charge) games in public rooms.

And Bankroll is bankroll, regardless of of live or online. Money doesnt change its addition and subtraction properites just becuase its online. Money is Money. The game is the same.

And no, You can't find a constant game in every city, not one thats public (you need this for the fish, private games jsut arent there, and if they are, they're friends and you can't live off your friends). I live In a major city, I can SEE the towers from here, and its a 3-4 hour drive to nearest public cardroom (detroit or Allegheny NY).

Lol, I actually live about an hour from Atlantic City.

I'd rather play online for a number of reasons... 3 tabling limit I get in 200 hands an hour instead of 40ish. I can play any time, instead of once or twice a week. If I'm in an unprofitable game, I can find another one instead of walking away.

Live is fun, but there's a lot of reasons why I'd rather play online.
