Default Did I make a good play?

I was playing a $1 single table sit n go on noblepoker. It was down to 3 handed, blinds are 30-60. I was on the short stack with 790 chips (everyone started with 1000), both the other players had over 1000 more than me so i figured i needed to make a move. So i picked up in the SB. I raised 2x the BB trying to steal. The BB calls, other guy folds.

    Flop comes:

My logic here was, I had been playing tight the whole game and hadn't really picked up any good hands, and I doubted that he had the 2, so I figured my combination of a tight image and him not having anything except maybe overcards would scare him away. He calls and shows . Turn is a , river is a and I'm out in third place on the bubble.

So my question is, should I have waited for a better spot to go in on? Did I even need to go in at this stage? Or did I just get outdrawn by a guy with an inferior hand?

    Comments appreciated, thanks

Ok, First off, while your stack in relationship to the other players is important, it is not nearly as important as your stack vs the blinds. While you were THE short stack, you were not A short stack, anything less than 10 big blinds is considered a short stack.

ok, was that a Min raise, or did you make it 3 to go? Either way thats a littel small. And if you were the SB, that means the Button had already limped in. You need to make it at least 4 here. Especially since its obvious that a 2 bb raise is not getting the job done when trying to steal.

I'm assuming you just pushed this flop, which is the right play.

And yeah, this is a bad beat.....

    Yeah I pushed the flop.

And actually I don't min raise anymore after reading all your posts talking about how it's a waste of time :P

I made it 3 to go. Yeah when I was reflecting on this hand afterwards I realized that my stack wasn't too small compared to the blinds and it may not have been the hand I wanted to risk going broke on, but I was anxious to win a hand so that probably factored in. Also, I think the button folded first before anyone else acted.

You played well for the position you put yourself in, but Marm is right, you put yourself in small stack mentality a little too quickly. Your push on the flop was twice the pot, showing that you probably had enough to contend for a while without pushing on Axs.

All in all, I like your play and I think I probably would have played the same way, you did get someone with an inferior hand to call you and you just took a beat.

Your stack is fine and the blinds don't mean that much. I'd consider just completing especially after the button limped.

In this situation your M was a little over 8. Not time to adopt short stack play as others have said, but it is time to change gears. No fancy plays at this stage. Straight value betting. In this case I am probably making a pot sized bet. To me it shows more strength than the all in push. The push smacks of "Go away please", and is more likely to be called. The pot sized bet says "It will cost you to play, and I have a hand right now". After all, if you were the one holding the 2, would you have pushed all in here? I wouldn't have........We always worry about interpreting our opponents actions. You need to also keep in mind how YOUR actions are being interpreted by your opponent.
