I don't even know why I pushed here. I thought he was bluffing, or had a weak ace. Either way though, I play hard throughout the tournament, avoided coin-flip situations and then in one hand, with no chip stack problems, throw it all away. I have no doubt if I had played this hand smart, and survived, I could have finished in 3rd easily.
So, how should I have played this? Raise his bet 3-4k? Called, and then push on the turn if a blank fell?

you played fine.
You could have bet a little less, but you are tied to the pot.
Nice hand bad result.

I agree, you played it right but once that guy called your raise pre flop for some unknown reason then he was on a semi bluff and took a chance after you raised him. It appears he had approx. a 45% chance of making better than your hand if you didn't improve but the kicker is he called your raise pre flop. Don't be sad, the better players will get drawn out more often than weaker ones since the better players are usually ahead.

Opps, missed the 3 on the flop so around 4% for a tie with the straight.

IDK, it seems to me when i have 10-20 bb's it is worth it just to go all in and pick up the pot with good hands such as this.
Otherwise I feel no problem with your all in on the flop, after all you were ahead and he CAUGHT.

Well... If this is a bad paly, I should be an horrible poker player!!!!
He made an awfull call on this one...
However, I may have made a smaller raise (pot size) to prevent you to be crack by 33 or 44. Those hand sounds to be possible ones in this situation.
Any flush draw was supposed to fold here. Even with a pair! So if he call or raise the Pot size bet, you are supposed to know your busted. But any way, this guy was a jerk and you cant do anything for it!!!

the caller needs to be lined up against a wall and shot for calling 8k with a pair of 4's even with the flush draw, even calling the PF raise was idiotic of him

He was getting plenty of odds post flop to call with 11 outs twice, and it is usually 14 outs but this time he was against AK and not AQ AJ etc.
The preflop call was terrible though.

Actaully shake his hand and say nice play. Buy him a drink. Get invited to his home game. It works a lot better.

in a cash game you thank him, get his phone number and shit.... in a tournament you beat him up and steal his wallet...
