here is the structure of the only live tourny i can afford to enter, apart from home games;
rebuy tourny, usually 50-90 players enter (very approx), rebuys are unlimited for the first hour.
each player starts with T1000, blinds start at 25/50 (20 BBs is not good right?), after 30 min blins go up to 50/100. after an hour there is a break and then the freezeout phase of the tourny begins with the blinds increasing at the same rate.
this seems a little harsh to me, i would prefer a larger starting stack or lower starting blinds.
i have typically gotten to the break with around 3-4000 added on and quickly found myself short stacked if i do not find a hand early after the break.
do i need to do a lot of gambling early on to get myself a playable stack?
btw i read this thread Tournament Advice but would also like some advice about how much to lower my starting hand requirements in the early stages.

This sounds a lot like the turbos I have been playing.
You can be 2nd in chips and still only have 24BB.
As far as I am concerned, you play a kind of Gus Hanses style, raise a lot, and be prepared to call all-ins if you have odds. If they uses antes, the pots get pretty big, so you can call with a wide range of hands.
It is tough to limp because others will be pushing and your implied odds are small.
It will be fun, that is for sure (as long as you can get some chips).

i have played the tourny before and i enjoyed it, however i felt i could have played better.
i think i needed to be more agressive and to gamble a little more in the 1st hour, also i limped a few times and then folded to a raise

ya ive played a lot of tourneys similair if not exact to what you're explaining.
the good thing about those smallere stacks is if you win a good size pot you become a quick chip leader and then can play as if you are a chip leader. although as someone already mentioned be prepared to make some all-in calls.
you also really play premium hands and if you can limp in with rags i would suggest it instead of making raises as you would with more chips cuz with a full table at low chip couts your phony raises to steal the pot turn into players re-raising all-inLast edited by J10suited; 06-16-2005 at 01:37 PM.

For a live small buy tourny that sounds awesome.. you cna play some pokery there. My events are $20 buy-in, same structure (1000TC 25/50) but 15 minute levels, and $20 rebuys for the first hour. I always skip them now cause they suck so bad and just wait for a table of fish to bust out and play good tilit-ridden 3/6 poker at the first cash table to form.
Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.
