I felt i played the wrong way because this person beside me kept commenting that i should do this i should do that, it kinda annoyed me but i guess he had more experience since he talks a lot and he knows a lot of terms and all that, im still roughly a beginner, around 3 months playing.
first play i had JK offsuit, 3 limped and others folded. I'm last to act with 2 ahead of me. cash game and i have a big stack.
flop was Jc 2 Xc , (don't remember the x, a non relevant card). there was a club flush draw
first to act bet 2bb, 2nd to act called, i called also.
turn was another irrelevant card.
first to act bet 2bb, 2nd to act called, i called.
river was a 2club. ( J 2 x x 2)
first to act checked, 2nd to act bet 11bb, i folded and so did the first to act.
after the round we talked about our cards. first to act had a J with low kicker, 2nd to act had a 2. The person beside me kept on criticizing that i should have raised on the flop with my top pair with king kicker. Did i play this the wrong way? I didn't bet on the flop because first to act bet 2bb, albeit small, still a bet. There's also a flush draw. I've lost a ton of money on top pair with good kicker many times. either my opp gets a two pair or whatever better card. This person beside me kept commenting, i know he has experience since he talks a lot and i see him always but on the table he was short stacked and had already rebought many times. I told him i folded because i play conservatively but he just laughed. I dunno, he seems to be a wreckless player but he knows his poker. Did i do the right play here?

another play was i had K 10 suited and flop shows king as a top pair.
we all checked and in the last round of betting i value bet with 5 bb and 2 or 3 called. I won with the top pair.
he again commented on why i didn't raise on the flop and how he bitched about on how i could have won more. it kinda annoyed me but im not comfortable with playing top pair based on experience. I guess what i still lack in my play is how i play with my top pairs.
My typical strategy is if i flop top pair most of the time i wont bet aggressively since i know a ton of other hole cards can beat the shit out of a top pair. Am i doing the right thing with how i play top pairs?Last edited by angelfish; January 12th, 2012 at 03:26 PM.

to illustrate his wrecklessness, at one round i had pocket 3s and he had pocket 5's. early position raises 5-6 bb and i folded, he called and flop turned out to be K 3 5 with a flush draw. The moment i saw the flop i regret folding because i had a set. He went all in and opponent called and hit a flush. This was kinda reckless because on his part in my opinion because early position raised so its a risky call with pocket 5's. sorry for the long post, thoughts?

OP, it's pretty difficult to comment on hand 1 without knowing stack sizes, your read on the other players and what your preflop action was, because you didn't say. Also was this live or online and what were the stakes?

Agreed that it's difficult to really analyze the hands without knowing stack sizes, the other players, the past history, etc. But to my way of thinking, you do seem to be playing a little too conservatively, especially in the first hand where you had KJ and flopped top pair. Two BB from the first bettor is a weak bet and the second player just called. I probably would have raised at that point with top pair and a K kicker. Otherwise you are giving anyone with a flush draw a cheap chance to make their hand, not to mention you gave the first player a chance to make two pair or the second player a chance to make two pair or trips (which is what happened to you). If they call you down and make their hand anyway, at least you know you made the correct play.
