Okay, looking for some advice on playing this hand. UTG+1 was at the table for about 40 hands or so and was seeing about 30% of the flops. This was the first time he raised. I had seen him limp with JJ.
How do I play this flop bet? I have TPTK. The only thing he can be holding (I think) that beats me is AA, or he was playing A2s or A3s and made two pair. Any suggestions on how to play this high-limit hand?

He probably had AJ, AT, JJ kind of thing.
You could do a lot of plays here, calling and letting him bet at you again on the turn would be a good way to play it if you want to gamble.
A flush draw is very unlikely - KQs would be the only one that the flop bet would be strange.
I would call and wait for the turn then triple his bet.
He does have a decent stack, so I would be careful about calling an all-in on the turn.
I hate playing stacks this big in NL cash games (love it in tournaments though

Whats with the (almost) min raise Pre-flop???? Need to make a slightly bigger raise here, maybe to .12
I put him on Ak-AJ, maybe KK-JJ, no set here though. Pop it up a buck ($1.50 to go) and see what he does.Last edited by Marm; 06-14-2005 at 12:23 PM. Reason: Flop changed to Pre-flop
Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.

I think you mean the PF reraise.
I really didn't mind it, because it is keeping the pot smallish, and will get the pot heads-up w/position on the raiser. He would have to put in a pretty hefty raise to win it. Although, I agree 12c is a good option too.

Yes, I guess pre-flop raise was weak. I wanted it heads-up, and the $.08 normally wouldn't have been enough to make the remaining five fold. This time it did though. I'll post the rest of the hand later tonight.
The stack was big 'cause I got a three-way all-in when I hit trips against pocket AA and QQ

i too, prefer a slightly larger raise PF so that you can play the hand with a bit more confidence if you hit. also, it builds a larger pot that will make a hand like AJ more likely to commit with second best. that's a critical part of the PF raise that a lot of people overlook...
on the flop, i don't hate a call and then waking up on the turn with a pot-sized bet or raise. however, i also don't mind a teaser raise at about 3-4x his bet. if he calls, you've probably got him locked with 2nd best for a big bet on the turn. of course, you may be up against set, etc and i would be very careful if villian puts in third raise on the flop.

I don`t think he has AA or he would have re raised pre flop. Also i doubt he has a rag ace. I would say he has a AK or high pocker pair....its possible he could have a set but there isn`t really enough information to go on... a flush draw is possible but i doub it. I would say more than likely your playing against AK or QQ, JJ etc or a set
