    Default AK misses flop

bodog has a graphic hand history so bleh

    NL Hold'em, $.25 BB (7 handed)

    Dealt in UTG+1

UTG limps. I raise. CO call. Button SB BB call. UTG calls.

    Flop:

    SB bets 1/4 of pot.

I reraise 2.4x his bet. UTG fold. CO calls. SB calls.

So here I probably should have folded?
AK against a pair Q on flop here 87% to 12%

anyway turn is blank and SB goes all in. I fold. CO calls.
    SB has Q7
    CO has JT

AK can be a big loser in ring unless you're careful.

With two calls and a face card on the flop that you don't hold.. the odds are that one of the others has hit. If somone has called with AQ preflop - they will play it out.. you would even have trouble getting someone to put down KQ or QJ. If there are suited cards involved you're in even bigger trouble...

J10 is an obvious hold and he gets pot odds on virtually everything you do. A queen (with good kicker may well call because of the flush potential). When you re-rerasied on the flop.. that looks like a flush bluff..

It's not a good flop to play AK off strongly against two other players. Apart the horror of trips you've got draws behind it... and you can't benefit from any of them..

whats really bad is if the other player did have KQ and a king fell... There would be three stacks going to SB

    Default choice...

As you're under the gun and weak.. I might be tempted with check.. let someone else lead.. then checkraise.. Then lead out on the turn with half pot. That is quite threatening and doesn't cost that much.

You essentially have Ace high..You can get people to put down a pair of tens or below. Flush draws really complicate things becaus ppl overvalue them by instinct or put you on the flush draw and then start overvaluing mid pair....

Beyond this you really have to have other ppls play down and the table must respect your bets before you can play AK well.

AK is very marginal if you're just playing the cards.. If you go to 2+2 you'll find pages of threads from ppl who are recording month on month loss on AK in NL. - It is a prime victim hand... If you hit a set.. the guy who sees you at the river on an Ace flop.. invariably holds AK..

Apparently if they are calling ith Q7 and even JT, You didnt bet enough PF, with an UTG limper, I would have made it 5 bb's to go here. Maybe more if the table is callish. With AKo early, I'm very heppy to just take the pot PF.

Agreed. Make a note of it for the next AKo you have at this table.

If they are calling and not raising, chances are they are playing a possible middle pair here and not trips or 2 pair.

See the turn, bet, if not check it over. Any raise - easy fold. As much as you would hate to lay down good cards, they're not very good in this particular case.

It's tough to raise PF and not bet into your opponents when the flop comes as it shows weakness. But, better not to be a fool, and soon be parted with your money on this one

Exactly... since it came 94Q with a flush draw, the chances of everybody folding this to a reasonably sized flop bet is slim. If it had come 249 rbw, then your AKo still has a good chance of being ahead, and you could possibly pick it up, enough of a chance that betting may be +EV.

What do they say in NL? Two big unsuited cards can win you a small pot but lose you a large one? Big unsuited cards in NL hold'em definitely aren't worth as much as some people think.

They say that about all big hands in NL.
