I'm the chip leader with $3360 chips, 4 players left, blinds are $50/$100.
the player in cut off ($1630 chips)calls to 100, I'm on the button with QQ and I rais to 300.
Blinds fold and cut off calls, flop comes 3 4 6 rainbow.
Cut off rais all in - should I call or fold?
P.S I eventually called and he won the hand with KK but I'm still not sure if I should have folded in this situation or not.
Any experienced opinions are welcome.
Thanks

So he limped in with 3 players to act holding KK? I don't like that play one bit. Still by him limping, then calling your raise, you might put him on a set after the flop, but then you think he would bet for value there. I might have put him on 2 overs, but most likely I would put him on 55 leaving him openended, or even somthing like 77 or 88. I would have made the call aswell.
PS. I can't believe he didn't reraise you preflop. Sounds like a noob to me.Last edited by Ipokergood; January 29th, 2011 at 12:52 PM.

I probably wouldn't be able to lay it down no matter what, probably an ego thing on my part.
To be sure though, you gotta use your reads and put them on a range. Think about all the possible hands that he could play this way. I'm less likely to think a set here, as setmining here is just bad especially after the raise. 99,TT maybe might be here, but that shove on the flop is just gross.
The other thing you gotta think about is ICM, which can help you determine (combined with ranges) if it's worth the call or not.
I think villain played KK in the worst possible way here, and he's just lucky you even had a hand you could call with.

To be honest, we can't answer that question without some knowledge of the guy. While 98% of the time it's an insta call on my part, I'm assuming you'd observed him for a while to get a feel for his actions. That info may be very important when making this decision.
Luck is a Residue of Design.

Thanks Guys...this was exactly the way I analysed the hand but I started to loose my confidence.
Back to Marm - The guy was a calling station but not very aggressive, still I could't put him on a monster hand when he didn't rais or at list reraised my rais pre flop. Also he went all in with out waiting to see if I had a hand at all.

I also agree with Nightofnarg that taking into consideration ICM maybe I should have folded that hand though.

Bikemaan, if you want to give me your best guess at his range, and the payouts to 4th place I can try to calculate the EV of a call. I do need some practice at ICM

i have used that guys strategy before to success. if im against an aggressive player who likes to raise and bet alot, ill check/call him when i have something really good, especially when i know i have either the nuts or close to it (and have the chips to afford a potential loss). if he were to reraise you preflop, would you have stayed in or folded? he wanted to suck out as many chips as he could so he called your preflop raise without putting any fear into you as you seem fairly confident with your hand. when that flop hit, he made the right move and pushed his chips in. i like what this kid did, you just happened to be the goat in this instance.
but to your question, i would have also called that flop with QQ while assuming he either had 2 over cards or a draw and was trying to steal the pot.

I personally think it'd better if guy with KK would have let OP cbet and commit more chips into the pot before shoving. That way KK guy could have gotten more value from weaker pairs like 77-TT that may bet but not call a shove.

I think that I would've called for sure in the situation too. There's only about a 1 in 110 chance that he had you covered pre-flop, and once that raggedy flop hit, I probably would've called again with QQ thinking that he's trying to bluff me on a straight draw.
