okay... so I did a 30+3 NLHE tournament on party earlier today, 800 started and we're down to 12 people when this occurs I'm 2nd lowest stack with 50,000 chips and blinds are 3k/6k... my table is 6 handed and in late position with everyone folded to me I pick up
AQo
I make it 20,000 chips to go hoping to pick up the 9k in blinds, sb folds and bb who is also chip leader with about 140k just calls...
Flop is 810J all hearts and I have no hearts, BB checks it to me and I check.. turn is no help BB puts me all in and I folded...
This hand really bothered me because it was a crucial hand as I soon busted out later because blinds were so big.. so what should I have done here? The BB was an aggressive player and he was playing and riasing a lot of hands...
What I'm thinkin I should've done is possibly go all in on the flop but I really don't know... I ended up busting out in 11th place after blinds were killing me.
Thanks

If I decided to play the AQ I'd go allin preflop, that way you get to see all five cards making your AQ better value against a pocket pair and leaving you dominated only by AK and AA (and KK sort of). Also more likely to induce a fold from the big stack who only had to put in 14k to a pot of 29k given your raise.
Whether I played the AQ would depend on my table image, the other players styles and the structure of the payouts.
Good work though, what's your Party name? I spend a lot of time in the 30/3 MTTs.

70/30 is pretty dominating I think.

By definition its not though.

Dominating but not dominated (ie even hitting your top card won't put you ahead).

hmm AK is dominated by KK but hitting top card puts him ahead. I think "one of your cards not live" is the best definition

These are all of the reasons why you should push PF. You're not just trying to make the final table, you wanna have some chips in your arsenal should you get there. You should be trying to pick up the 9k in the middle every button hand when everyone folds to you, especially with a hand like AQ.

thanks, yeah after thinking about it a lot and seeing everyone's post I feel likei should've gone all in preflop and taken my chances... oh well, I won't make the same mistake next time.

I think you should have probably pushed preflop, but not making a continuation bet on the flop definately hurt you. You probably still had the best hand on the flop and by checking you need to hit something on the turn or else he will push you out of this hand.
