i play a lot of sngs and one problem i've been running into quite a bit lately is when it's on the bubble in a one table sng and everyone is somewhat evenly stacked, or at least still competitive, and i get a low pocket pair. i play fairly low buy ins and usually i feel like i'm better than the other guys in my sng, so i try not to push into coinflips cuz i think in the long run i can beat them without doing that. so what do i do? limp for a set? raise to isolate since there's not many people and they probably don't have a great hand? just try to steal?
what i've been doing lately that's not working for me is raising about 4x preflop. if i get called, i just have no idea where i am on the flop, especially if there's a high card and my opponent bets. these hands are probably costing me more than any other hand late in sngs. i know i'm playing for first, or at least top two, not just to money, but i'm having trouble making them profitable at all. should i just be limping?

low pp on the bubble

As the bubble approaches, I usually declare that a NO LIMPING ZONE, usually for them. I'm raising like every 3-4 hands, or whatever the cards allow for. hands like 44 in LP get raised. Mainly to try and steal the blinds. Now if you raise and get to see a flop and are bet into with overs, You're usually beaten, Unless they know you can fold a weak hand to a bluff, then you can push back, but thats really risky.
You really need to be chipping away at their stacks, constantly.
Guess this really didnt answer your question too qell... but theres my .02Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.

you are on the bubble so no limping if its under 5 handed
i dont like the 4x raise with a small pp. 3x is fine. you are raising to take down the blinds and if you get called you will be in position. if 2 call you just need to check it down without a set. if one calls on the blinds, he checks bet 3/4 and you will take it down if not just shut down. if he bets out on flop theres nothing wrong with folding. most of the time you can even raise and take it down. this shouldnt be that big of a problem anyway. 1 they are pretty easy to play and 2 how often do you get small pps that you have to play on the bubble
from what ive seen you need to be more aggressive. the bubble is the time to chip up. they dont want to bubble and they def will not come over the top with junk. you said you are better than them so outplay them. put the pressure on them. of the time you can even raise and they will fold.
i dno. i could prob help you a ton if i watched some of your s/gsit's better to be pissed off than pissed on

i actually have gotten more aggressive since the first tourney we played (i think i've come a long way since then; had someone watching me play and critiquing and that was a big help). and the second one i wasn't in long enough to show any skill at all. heh.
i think that's part of the problem. i am fairly aggressive on the bubble cuz no one wants to go out so they're pretty weak. but after a while people get sick of me stealing blinds and will raise me pf or checkraise me on the flop with nothing and then when i have a low pp i have to fold it. and blinds at that point are so high that losing one raised pot is a serious dent to my stack.
