I've been starting to play shorthanded tables now instead of the longhanded tables I'm used to. Is river value betting affected in these situations. I'm noticing that my river value bets aren't worth nearly as much as in longhanded tables.

Shorthanded river play

The number of players shoudlnt matter, the relative strength of your hand does. I understand that fewer people means fewer playable hands, but a value bet vs 1 or 2 players is still a value bet vs 1 or 2 players.

Yeah, but I thought river value betting is better used when the pot is big. In shorthanded play, that usually is never the case. Is it better to check-call and possibly induce a bluff on the river shorthanded or river value bet just as much as you would in longhanded tables?

Shorthanded or full table doesnt matter, as you said, It's pot size. Its so player, relative strength of the hand, etc dependent.
A value bet is good whenever you think the bet will be +EV. If you think the bet will earn you .1 bb per time bet, then its a good value bet.Marm is back, maybe. Been off for 3 years. Rusty as Hell.
