Math is paramount in poker. Old thread that I'm very disappointed in. I read over and over about it's "impossible to put someone on a specific hand". This is where people need to graduate to ranges, the idea that people have a set of hands they could possibly have.
How can you have the intuition to know what to do, when you haven't studied the situation fully. Sure you can be profitable, but not optimally.
Doing the math to understand where you went right or wrong will build your confidence, and enable you to withstand bad beats and downswings.

Honestly, someone who has studied the math of poker is going to progress rapidly in comparison to someone who blindly stumbles "intuitively".

Really? I can't think of any situation that math doesn't play a major part in my decision in a poker hand. I think you play more on your "feeling" but established professionals or avid poker players shouldn't play on "feel" alone. Math should always be involved. "Luck" does help, but the math should be applied to every hand to base your basic decisions on.
