Okay, I admit I took this from another thread where I posted becuase I'd still like to have a discussion on it. Forgive me and/or close the thread if you think that was stupid to do.
Home Tourney - T800
Blinds at 20/40 about to go up to 25/50
Hero is MP & chip leader with 1,200ish
Villian is to the left & 2nd in chips with 1,100ish
Most stacks are around 600 in chips.
Dealt to Hero![]()
The blinds were about to go up and I had established myself as the agressor at the table so I decided to overbet my hand and just take the blinds. I bet 200 into the pot of 60. Surprisingly, Villian called as the blinds folded.
Flop came,

I lead out into the pot again. Force him to a decision. If he raises you, you're probably going to have to fold. I always like to take the pressure off of me having to make a call.

I would definitely lead into this pot. You were the aggressor before the flop, and I'd stay there. If the pot is 460 on the flop, I'd bet about 250 into it. If I'm raised, then I lay it down. If I'm called, how I'd proceed on the turn would depend upon my knowledge of how my opponent plays.

yuk
hes either got an ace - which he won't put down
or he's got a pair above 7
You might get him to put down TT,JJ even QQ... you might..
or he's got KJ or something which he will put down quite easily.
you have to prevent him/make him pay for drawing for the unpaired face cards.
A sturdy bet tells you what you're up against. Sometimes you bet for information or defray bluffs- this is one such time.Unfortunately he may give you information you don't want. BUT - You must not give him first to bet intiative. If you bet strongly you stand a chance of taking out a hand stronger than yours. If he holds 88 or even KJ and bets heavily after your check... he wins the battle...
In summary a sturdy bet will take out some weaker and a few stronger handsand deny him the bluff.
About 1 out of 5 times it will tell you you are beat....See me playing $10/$20NL like it was play money
