Newbie here,
So with a pair preflop, should you generally always try to get people to go all-in or how does it work.
I really hate getting a low pair preflop because i always bet and generally always lose. Don't really know how to play it.

Usually no.
Cash game, full buy in stacks ~ roughly 100 big blinds (bb) each. Against most random unknowns horrible to get all in with 1010 or smaller, even 1010, JJ & QQ could be iffy against tighter opponents.
Cash game, with less than 20 bb effective stack it is ok to stack off lighter because -- actually I cant think of the right way to explain it right now but it is good to open your call/shove range depending on the situation.
Tournements start here and do some research on the subject.

Each hand you are dealt is its own unique situation. This question is too broad. But we can give some broad generalizations about small pairs with respect to tournaments and cash games.
Generally speaking, you should try to get to the flop as cheaply as possible with a small pair. The value of making a set is apx 8-1 so you can't always set mine (which is to call someones preflop raise with the intention to flop a set and stack them) You need to be careful of calling preflop raises from short stacks because you won't have value and you need to NOT call three bets in or out of position with small pairs either. It will look tempting if you 3x and they 10x to call the remaining 7bb in hopes of stacking them for 100 bb but the math is just not there, its been calculated time and time again and you may have short run success but in the long run its a losing play. So pretty much be happy to get in cheap to see the flop, and out cheap when you don't make the set. And when that perfect flop does come, on greater than 88% of the time, do NOT slowplay as the general winning style is to value town your opponents all day long.
