Hey everyone,
Pretty new to playing Online poker seriously and putting a lot of time into it. I'm feeling a little stuck right now, but I can't pinpoint exactly what it is.
I'm more or less breaking even at the moment, which obviously feels a bit frustrating considering how much time I am putting in, but I guess it could be worse, could be losing a lot, so at least that's not happening.
Anyway...
My main question is, what do people consider to be the most effective ways of studying. I feel like my studying needs to change (not sure improve is the right word, just change.) Right now I pretty much just watch strategy videos and take notes. The notes may be a bit in isolation which might not be the best. I'm doing it akin to the way people usually take notes when studying in school, I just play the videos and then stop them every now and then to write something down. Then I start them back up again and a 30 secs - a minute or two later stop them again and take another note, and on and on like this.
It's starting to feel like I'm kind of just writing random pieces of strategy down and that's it. Maybe there is a lack of organization. Sometimes it seems to me that articles are more structured then Videos, so perhaps I should be reading more articles or poker books then videos. The videos I am watching are from Leggo poker and Poker Savvy Plus, so they aren't just random videos, they have a professional quality to them, but they are just play sessions, so of course they often don't focus on one topic at a time, but rather jump around from one to another, very much unlike your average article on poker.
I do also try to take notes WHILE playing of what leaks I think I am making, so I can go over them and try to figure out how to plug them later. And I do take time before my first play session of the day and after my last play session of the day to review these notes. This seems like a good thing to do, but what about other studying. Just watching video after video of play sessions from various players on the afore mentioned sites doesn't seem to be the most effective studying method.
What do people suggest for studying? What are some methods that each of you use that are helpful to you?
I also have one other question. Not totally related but I'll ask it in the same thread just the same I guess.
Most people, that play poker seriously, seem to play six max. I've been playing FR. I'd be interested to hear peoples opinions on the merits of playing 6 max vs. playing FR. It seems to me that in 6 max it can be a little easier to open certain hands because there are less positions. Like suited Aces and Medium non suited aces (e.g A9o) as well as medium and even small pp's. In FR I find myself reluctantly open folding small and medium pp's from EP and MP (depedning on the table) and only opening hands like A8o and A5s from LP. This seems correct, but what I'm saying is that at 6 max I pretty much would only have to fold many of these hands from UTG (once again table dependent)
I guess what I am saying, although maybe not that well, is that it seems like a 6 max there are a lot of hands that you can easily open from CO and BT and maybe UTG +1 that you have to fold in 4-6 positions at an FR table but would only have to fold a 1 or MAYBE 2 positions at a 6 max table.
Anyway, what are most peoples reasons for choosing 6 max over FR?
