I've been playing poker for a few years now, and I admit I'm not the best, I do win with regularity, but I still have a lot to learn. I'm brand new to UB and i started with only a $50 bankroll, so I'm working my way up starting with the penny tables.
This particular hand I tried something I've never done before because I thought I had a read on one of my opponents, but I'm not sure if it was the correct play. Hindsight says it wasn't since I lost the hand, but I'm still curious if this is a common technique and if I should use it again if the situation dictates it, or if its just an all out terrible play

I already know I shouldnt have bet the pot on the flop. If i wanted to see where I was at, I could have done so for cheaper. The pot bet is what got me into this mess. When Habby check raised all in it was obvious he had a king, but for 11 cents more I was getting 15:1 assuming a call from ClassyPete also, and if Pete checks again its worth it for the 2 outer at 11:1.
*** TURN *** [6c Kd 8d] [3c]
CLASSYPETE - Checks
BLUECORONA - Bets $0.88
CLASSYPETE - Calls $0.88
Pete checked like I thought he might, and with the 'check-call-check' I was starting to think he was on a flush draw. Obviously the penny tables are very loose and people love chasing flushes which is what made me think that. I bet half the pot hoping he was on a draw. If he raises I fold, if a diamond comes I fold, if its a blank I check and hope for the side pot to cut my losses.
*** RIVER *** [6c Kd 8d 3c] [5d]
CLASSYPETE - Checks
BLUECORONA - Checks
*** SHOW DOWN ***
CLASSYPETE - Shows [Kc Jc] (One pair, kings)
HABBY555 - Shows [Qd Ks] (One pair, kings)
BLUECORONA - Mucks
Basically I knew I was beat for the main pot, but thought I had the other guy that still had chips beat. It wouldnt matter if there was no side pot, so that's why I did what I did. Was this a horrible play?

Creating a side pot to break even?

Very standard play.
It would be a mistake not to bet at this side pot if you feel he can call with worse.
I also think betting the flop is standard and for just 50 cents I expect the short-stacker to be getting in with any flush draw, any straight draw, and pairs like 9s/10s aswell so I don't think you should assume you aren't still ahead of him every time here either.
It would be terrible to bluff in this spot. If for example you had 45 and potted the turn then you are still going to have to showdown against a better hand and hit something to win so folding out the other big stack wouldn't be worth it for the most part.Best Current Ongame Deal.
