5 handed table, live game blinds are at 50/100 and I have about 1500 left. Table folds around to me in the small blind where I pick up![]()
and I call at a discounted price to see a flop. Big Blind checks. Flop comes out Q52 of hearts. I bet half the pot with top pair and a flush draw, he calls. Turn is a blank and I lead off for half the pot again and get a caller. River is a blank again and I bet and get reraised about 200 more and call. He flops over AA, how do I prevent this from happening again?

Did I play this right?

Well, when he called you on the flop I would wonder if he had you beat right there or if he also had a flush draw. On the turn his calling your bet means he most likely has you beat at which point you need to slow down. Personally I would have slowed down after he called on the flop.

That's tough. My only suggestion would be to bet out the pot or more after the flop. It makes it harder for a bad hand or an overcard to try to catch a card and may also give you more information about his hand if he's willing to call a pot sized bet.
I would have lost a lot of money on this hand, too...

Incidentally I didn't notice the name before. Where do you live in Chicago? I'm up in the North suburbs but play poker with buddies in Oak Park (W. Suburbs). I know Alex is in Chicago...anyone else?

I live in the Chicago area, down near Joliet. When playing live, I'm usually at the 5/10 tables at the Empress in Joliet. My job being very summer intensive, I won't have much time to play for the next 3 months or so; however I plan on resuming regular play in the fall as the tables at the Empress are pretty soft.
On topic...IMO you def. should have slowed down after his turn call if not on the flop as you at least have to think you're in kicker trouble vs. QJ or maybe KQLast edited by WilliamLowe; 05-19-2005 at 01:07 PM.

773! 773!
I grew up at Oak Park/Division, monsters. I live at LSD/Belmont now.
You have 15 bets on a NL table and got yourself pot committed with nothing on the table. You shouldn't have less than $7,500 at this table at any time. You're overentending a weak BR and that's very dangerous. There is a $500 game at Harrah's that's juicy, but the blinds are 5/10. The 10/20-30/60 limit games at Trump and Harrah's are pretty weak, especially on the weekends.
