I think I understand the basic pots like current odds and implied odds for the most part on the basic hands. Odds like drawing to a straight or flush, the common stuff. What about like set mining and playing connectors. I've heard that you wanna get paid 10-1 or better to play those hands. Just say a player raises to 50 and he has 500 behind, you can call. Someone please help explain more on this and how it can apply to cash games. Thanks

You hit a set on 1 in every 8.5 flops that you see with a PP. You don't get to stack your opponent off everytime you hit a set, often you just take the pot + a cbet or something so there will be a lot of sets that don't yield the full 8.5x calling price that you are looking for. Consequently you should be looking to mine opponents with more like 15x the calling price left in their stack who you feel will likely stack off. These massive wins can make up for the smaller wins and keep your average return above 8.5-1 which is the minimum. You probably already know this but don't play every mid-low PP like you're mining either, then often have value on unsetted flops.
As for suited connectors it's a bit less straightforward because you're flopping straight or flush drawing hands plus made hands like trips, 2 pair, straights and flushes. Somebody else could probably explain the maths here but I just look for about 15-1 again if I feel I'm probably facing an overpair.
Also things like position and players left to act need to be factored in here too.

So if you had just say a hand like 76s or a small pair and your heads up with a raiser who is playing his or her AK faceup. You can call if you can 15 to 1 or better.
