Just wrote an article on analyzing your starting hands
One of the first things you learn when you start studying poker is starting hands. Most books place starting hands into categories -category 1, category 2, and so on- that are to be played from different positions or situations.
This is probably the best way (being both informative and easily digestible) for new players to learn to be selective. The problem is, too many players never look deeper into starting hand play: They figure you only get two cards, so the decision should be very clear cut.
The truth is, starting hands have just as many nuances as any other part of the game, if you know the right questions to ask.
When you are making a decision with your starting hand ask yourself the following three questions:
1. Does my hand play better heads-up or multi-way?
2. Is my hand position sensitive?
3. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my hand?
