Default 3 Betting Advice Needed.

I know I don't do it enough. I want to do it more. However I am kind of unsure what good spots are to try it. Beyond the obvious times like holding big pairs preflop.

What should I be looking for? Anyone have any thoughts, reading recommendations and the like?

Thanks.

This is so generalised.

What game do you play?
What stakes?
How many players?
Do you track your play? (If No, why not!)

Reading reccomendations are difficult without all of that, but I assume you have read the "Theory of Poker", if not.. read that now!!

Yeah we need more info.

Basic rule is try to do it in position as much as you can, it's very hard to play back at 3bets when OOP and if you start 3betting too much OOP you will get called by a fairly big range which is a nightmare to play against postflop.

You should 3bet bluff when you feel your opponent will fold alot preflop or on the flop.
This is an obvious statement but it is all you really need to know.

its funny because you could do this like 50% of the time and it'd probably be profitable.

Sorry for the slow follow up to this thread. Dealing with work issues. If anyone ever uses words like "efficient" and "competent" when discussing South Korean immigration don't hesitate to call them liars.

I don't think I've even played 100 hands this month

Anyway:

1. NLHE
2. Super micro
3. Full ring of late
4. Yes. Why else would I be concerned with something like tweaking my 3-bet percentage lol.

I have read ToP but do need to read it again.

While I haven't been playing at all this month I have been thinking about this.

The thought I had the other day is that a 3-bet is kind of like a reverse steal attempt. Instead of trying to steal the blinds of the players behind you, you are kind of trying to steal the bet of the person in front of you.

Maybe supersteal is better since you are aiming for the blinds as well.

Anyone have an opinion on what kind of hand volume you need on a player before Fold to 3bet% starts to converge on a "reliable" number?

I'd say you need a large hand volume, especially at micros, since 3-betting isn't that common.

At micros, I'd recommend not 3-betting that much without a strong hand, unless you've seen that the person in question is tight-weak. There are just too many calling stations at low stakes for 3-betting SCs and stuff to be profitable.

Yeah, I would definitely agree with that. I was trying it out more when I was playing last month and it was really just costing me bets. Something to keep in mind for when I move up unless I see a really good opportunity.
