Default Looking to raise my $VpiP and PFR%

Think davidab19384134237 made a thread recently about widening his opening range and raising both his %VpiP and PFR% in shorthanded cash games.

Would you recommend just widering my opening range from CO/Button or from all across the board? Got any specifc ranges of hands in mind that I should use? Looking to reach about 20/18, currently stand at about 14/12.

Is this realistic? Any help/comments? Thanks!

Wota: "14/12? If anything you need to tighten up!"

Haha, yeah, he would say that. Just looking to develop my LAG game really so that I can switch back and forth as and when it's required. At the moment I can only really play a solid TAG game.

It would depend on game texture/flow as to when I would tighten or loosen, not simply a preconceived notion that I need to loosen or tighten up. I would play your normal strategy and look for certain spots/times that you can play more hands, rather than going into the game expecting to play more hands.

As I said:

I just feel I need to learn to play a wider range of hands and how to play them in different situations so figured playing a more LAGgier game for a while might help.

Are you playing 6max or full ring?

What stakes also?

6max I'd say 14/12 is too tight in general and you are giving away value, but I think the whole 20/18 thing is over-rated before 100nl, I found 17/13 to be perfect for me.

6max.

25NL.

Yeah over these 500 hands or so I've just played I'm at 17.77/15.02 so not too far enough. Would be doing alright too if it wasn't for a few bad beats and not calling two shoves before me with QQ.

See the thing is, everyone wants to conform to this new fad of playing a LAG style. While playing a good LAG style is very very profitable, not that many know how to play it properly and they end up hurting their game.

At 25nl, there's really not much need imo for you to be playing LAG, you'll get a ton of variance and people just don't fold so you may lose value and get incredibly tilted in the process. I honestly think a tighter 16/12 ish style is great at 25nl and 50nl and can easily crush the games, when you move up beyond that you may need to open up your game a little to counteract the aggression you tend to see.

from someone who has played both 17/14 and 22/18 at 25nl the former works best.

why?

Edit: ugh, that looked prickish when i saw it there all by itself

what i mean, is why do u want to widen ur opening ranges?

maybe its just me but this seems like the kinda question that if u have to ask the question, u really shouldnt be asking it in the first place
