I'll use a fictional hand as an example. We're playing 6max NLHE, lets say 100nl and have no reads on any of the players, maybe 10 hands of stats but that's it. We've not done much, raised the odd good hand, folded for the most part but we've only been there 10 hands so not anything real to go on.
We get![]()
in the bb.
BTN raises to $4, SB calls
The 10 hands we have on the BTN are 20/10/-, and the SB is 40/0/-
Now with good reads on the BTN being a standard TAG I'd 3bet this a fair amount and call sometimes, very rarely folding if I have him as a 20/17/3 type.
With no (or very limited even) reads, how are we proceeding?
Is it really weak to just be folding this early in the session?
Should we if anything be MORE aggressive and 3bet more in this spot?

Early session play vs unknowns
For Free Money, Rakeback and some 6x Ongame bonuses, I recommend PokerSource.
I recommend Cardrunners for superb poker coaching. It was honestly the single biggest improvement in my game signing up there! Sign-up fee might seem steep, but it pays itself back within weeks.

I think its wise to play at least a few rounds at any given table before starting to make any moves. I think this is best just to acclimated to the feel of the table. I do this even at NL20. So far has worked out well and helps me not feel like I dont know what I am up against.
Lots of good rakeback options at http://www.rakeguard.com/?raf=KRE8R
KRE8R probably has about seventy college funds in his NL5 roll.

To answer the general question rather than a specific hand, I assume any unknowns are sharks and play tighter against their raises, even at NL5. (You know how many NL5 sharks you get)
IMO if it's true that you lose less money folding the best hand than you do calling with the worst hand then it's also true that you lose less money overestimating your opponents than you do doing the opposite.

But your Suited!
I say your suited and should push all in.
But really, I think I call here, and then if you fold after the flop maybe someone will pick up on you as a fish and by that time you have the nuts and just set a trap for them.
I would use that hand to set my image at the table, maybe if i didnt have anything after the flop I would reraise whatever he bet, you know hes gonnna bet, unless it comes q, 10, 10. Then whatever comes next I would think about it for a minute and then fold. Looking like the donkey whos its his first day playing NL100. Im probably not like anyone else in my thinking patterns though so I just may sound apsolutely retarded.
