Is it possible that this move could be profitable? I have seen it done a few times (with good results). Personally, it seems that this is just too risky, backdoor hands are so much more likely in this game. What do you guys think? Are there some situations where this could work to draw extra bets into the pot?

you mean omaha? If so, almost never unless you have a strong nut hand that there are few draws against.

exactly... If you flop Quad or nut Fullhouse you can slow play, but in no other situation...
Even flopping the nut flush or straight, you cant slow play... too many full house in Omaha.

The only hands I will slowplay in OH are flopped quads or a good boat. Anything other than that you are just asking to get drawn out on.
