Pre-flop raise sizes
Either Sklansky or Harrington reccomend varying your PFR size to keep your opponents guessing.
What do you do?
I just always raise either 3xBB+1 or 4xBB+1 in real life depending on how many chips I have and how likely the table are to call, and online I usually just mash the shit out of the pot button, sometimes rounding down to the nearest 50/100/1000 in tournies just to keep things simple.

This is a very good topic that I was thinking of raising myself.
My standard in a cash game is 4xBB + 1 per limper or 3.5xBB when opening on the button
I'll come back another time

For me it's a standard 4xbb + 1 per limper, some very good advice that Wota gave me a few months ago

I would like to make a change to the standard 4x + 1 reccomendation.
I think it is very profitbale to vary your raise sizes by position but keep standard by the hand.
At 6max I would open to 4bb UTG and UTG+1, 3.5bb on CO and 3bb on BTN.
The reasoning is as follows. When we are UTG we have a stronger range and a worse position. Both these conditions favour a larger raise (We want more money in pot when we have better hands and we want to discourage callers with position on us)
When we are on the BTN we have a much wider range and anyne who calls us will be OOP. These conditions both suit smaller raise sizes.
I hate varying by hand strength as it is readabale. I may vary by players. E.g. If there is a huge donk who doesnt fold Im gonna open to 5-6bb PF to isolate him with my entire raising range.

I usually do the 3x plus 1 per limper. Sometimes if I am playing a lower game like nl25 I just make it 5 times.
And in real life its usually like 5 to 6 times.

Hmm. interesting. I usually never see anyone open up with that large of a raise in the stakes I play. I usually raise TO 3bb, 4 if I am feeling cocky I guess I gotta change that

According to PNLHE Vol. I you should be sizing your preflop raises based on the stack sizes of who you expect to call to get optimum SPR.
