I've been having some difficulties with the minraisng donks at Ongame 100nl recently. I never had this issue at 50nl (or even 100nl on UB for that matter), maybe it's cos I wasn't playing ongame and these guys are just weird.
Anyhoo, in the past I've always been cbetting a ton, like almost anything but obv depending on how the flop texture hits the villains likely range. This doesn't seem to be that effective for me recently as I find myself being floated by a ton of mid-low pairs and A high hands that just don't fold and with so many of them calling down more than one street I don't think double barrelling is a great thing to be doing too much of, especially when the turn bricks.
My plan is to leave cbetting for spots like:
- having a read that they fold often enough (this can be nits or even savvy grinders who will not make spewy calls with anything for no reason)
- having no or very limited showdown value
- excellent hands and hands that figure to be best enough against people who love to call down light.
- draws that give me enough likely equity in the hand to be profitably cbetting.
There's probably more instances but I can't think of them right now. An example would maybe be cbetting a 68s on K52 flop but not cbetting, say, KTs on a 369 flop. I find the amount of check minraising that goes on will either build pots with very marginal hands or push me off hands with decent showdown value.
This is obv very vague so far and highly dependent on the opponent, but what do you guys think of this assuming I'm against "mr minraising passive donkey"?
I suppose a lot of this is I don't really need to be mixing up my play to outplay these opponents, they do it to themselves. Obviously against a capable solid player I will be mixing it up alot to stop myself becoming predictable.

cbetting at the low stakes
For Free Money, Rakeback and some 6x Ongame bonuses, I recommend PokerSource.
I recommend Cardrunners for superb poker coaching. It was honestly the single biggest improvement in my game signing up there! Sign-up fee might seem steep, but it pays itself back within weeks.

hey, i think cbetting often is bad
hey, this is my first post on this forum, so please don't dismiss me as a donkey. lol..
My advice, i think is that cbetting is a standard play for most players. However, it so standard now that I do this thing called a "called bluff." Which, I call their cb and bet on the turn. I'm also good at reading hands and players, but I could smell cbetting from a mile away for some reason.
because so many players seem to think they can get away wit it. I play NL100 by the way.
So when I cb, I always follow these guidelines, and I found it to be more effective.
When I raise preflop, I always cb if I have 1 or 2 player and the flop is high, low, low. And if it's drawy, I don't cb. You don't want to cb on a drawy board. Because players that chase, will chase it. And if you want to build the pot up when u have a draw, check and reraise. because you want ur draws to make huge money. rember the old principle, have the pot small when you want it small, and have it big when u want it big. if u cbet when ur drawing and he calls, then you still have a small pot. and when he calls, you can't tell if he's drawing with you or not. if u check, and he bets, then u reraise with ur draws, thats increasing the pot size. and u can read him a lil better.
hope this answers ur questions.

You say that if you want to grow a pot then you should checkraise, but what if the fella checks also and then your draw hits or misses on the turn, do you still check when it hits or misses?

I have noticed during my short time on Cake that people tend to float the flop cbets a lot more than what I experienced at Stars. I have been firing a lot more double barrels and getting surprising good results.
Lots of good rakeback options at http://www.rakeguard.com/?raf=KRE8R
KRE8R probably has about seventy college funds in his NL5 roll.

i've cut it back too, since it's usually a bluff and they're usually calling stations which for obvious reasons dont mix. just think of your pf raises as all for value and "be done with the hand" when you miss or have little equity against their range. i know what you mean by expecting to be c/red or floated.
anyone decent with PT know how to use a filter for pre flop raise with a cold caller, cbet flop, and fold to turn or river bet? i seem to take that line about a thousand times a session.
