Default The Official Omaha 8 strategy thread

Which method do you guys adhere to

    #1 - A2 or A3+ hands

    #2 - the 3 to a wheel theory

I myself use the A2 theory but know 2 really good players who play any 3 unmatched cards to a wheel and have really good results with it. Discuss

I generally try to stay on the tighter side of things and use the A2 theory. I think playing any three to a wheel really lowers your profitability by pissing away bets. I think playing the stronger hands like A2 will make it easier to pick off weak players, while playing the marginal hands really reduces your ability to play winning poker. However, I think that the decision may be different whether we are playing pot limit or limit. In pot limit, I may be willing to spew around some more chips playing the marginal hand and hope to spike a huge pot.

the 2 guys I know who play 3 to a wheel do better than i do. they also play close to flawless post-flop and are hard to put on a hand so they get paid off a lot. it's hard to tell if they have A2 or 245. they generally raise most A2+ and A3+ suited hands, 4 cards 6 and lower, and 4 cards T-K.

They limp with 3 to a wheel and A2 A3 hands, soyou're always up in the air as to where htey are.

They also identify who plays A2 and who plays garbage, so they easily move the A2 players off hands post flop.

I tend to shy away from the three-to-a-wheel hands simply because I'm not as confident in my postflop play.

It's the same reason I play 15/12 rather than 18/10 at HE.
