Default What the heck was Freddy Deed thinking?

I was just watching "poker superstars elimination" on FSN, and I am simply baffled at this move.

    Heads Up:
Helmuth goes all in, with i believe 2:1 chips to Deed.
Deed holds a 9 4 offsuit(!) and begins to contemplate, and then CALLS. After Helmuth flips over KQ, they both commented on how Deed probably made the correct move. Hellmuth then adds, "yea you coulda folded, it might be a LITTLE better"

AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE!? HE had a 9 4 off and called Hellmuth's all in.

i'd guess that hellmuth's shove was for fewer than 5 BBs which gave freddy the correct pot odds (when blinds and antes are counted) to call with any two cards. and fyi it's deeB

Thats what I originally thought, but after Deeb caught a runner runner for a straight, Hellmuth still had chips. Which means Deeb went all in with a 9-4 offsuit.

Knopwing exact stacks, the BB and the time to next level would help. If you're right that Freddy still had 1/3 of the chips in play (you said HU 2:1) then he probably could have let it go, but if Freddy only had around 5 BB as squeezy suggested, then you pretty well gotta play any 2.

based on helmuths comment the ev in calling and folding was very very close. this means that both players had very small stacks compared to the blinds, or it was a very small % of freeddys stack to call knowing he has no fold equity next hand anyways, he would rather double him up now then next hand where he would win more chips.

Blinds were high or Deeb was shortstacked I'm assuming.
