Default Help with local tourney strategy

The local cardroom runs daily tourneys. It was fine when there were 30-40 people, but now it is so popular that there are 80+ people. The blinds move quick, 20 minutes and the levels double starting at 25-50 with 2500 in chips. I tend to be a fairly tight player early on, and always find myself in trouble after 4 levels if I am totally card dead. I do fine online when the blinds go at slower rates and I have time to build my stack. How should I best approach these? Also they are starting 10 man SNG for $15 minutes with 10 minute blinds. Looking forward to those.

Part of the problem I think is that unlike online play, you don't get anywhere near as many hands in. We may get 10-12 hands in a level.

Its a state authorized card room in Flint. I have talked to FaDi a couple times about it. I was the original pit boss there and helped get it rolling. It's a monster now, relatively speaking to a casino. Every night there are several NL tables, 3-6 limit Hold em and Omaha games and a daily tourney at 7pm. Monday through thursday the tourneys are $25 Friday and Saturday they are $40. None have rebuys. Starting on the 12th they will have a monthly $100 tourney. Where in Michigan are you? Welcome to alspalacepoker.com Let me know if you plan on going some time and we could meet up.

Yes it is 18+. There are mostly bad players for the NL game, but there are also a couple of guys, that that is all they do, it is their living. One of them is a regular at Greektown and MGM and is very very good.

In these kinda tourneys you are gonna have to play faster. That means pushing your flush draws and even open ended draws if your stack is getting low. You just can't afford to wait around. We have the same kinda tourneys here in the Mid-West. For me it's a "build a big stack early" or go home venture. I have had success with it even though it is not my natural style of play. You have to adjust to the structure and the one you are playing is FAST for a live tourney.

I haven't been to Soaring Eagle ing quite a while, but have been thinking about coming up for their big tourney at the end of the month, but its hard for me to get to far away, my wife is due Feb 2nd. You should come down to Flint some time and crush the NL game.
