Hey all,
Got a question for the forum.
I recently competed in a 12 week Texas Holdem League, and was lucky enough to finish in 4th overall in the standings, which are based on points accumulated through each of your finishes in the 12 week season.
The top 9 now compete in a "Championship Table"
The catch is the guy who finished in 1st gets 3,000 in chips and each lower seed gets 250 less chips all the way to the person in 9th who gets 1,000.
Im in 4th, so ill have 2,250 chips. The main event is set up to start at 25/50 and go up every 20 minutes.
Ive never played in an event where the chips were not even at the begining. Of course the overall prizes are better the higher you finish in this event.
Was wondering if anyone here has played in an event like this, or had any strategys that might help me out next Monday Night.
Thanks in Advance
H8

There's not much of a difference, really, than when everyone starts off even. Just play the same as if the people who are above position 5 have won some pots, and the people below have lost some.

Since the early blinds aren't very big in relation to stack sizes (even the small stack starts with 20 BB...not great, but not desperation either) I wouldn't adjust my play any differently at all. Once the blinds go up a level or two you can start to lean on the shorter stacks and take advantage of their precarious position.
Mostly though, you'll use normal tournament final table strategy and try to accumulate chips.

Play it the exact same way you would play a regular final table...
Try to take advantage of smaller stack by stealing their blinds and push them out on the flop. Try to avoid to be involved with bigger stack with marginal hand.
IMHO...

Thanks everyone for your response.
I appreciate it.
Kind of what i was planning on doing.
Im thinking its going to be quite tight the 1st one or 2 times around the table, where it is a championship event and im thinking no one is going to want to make the 1st mistake!
Thanks Again

Then win 3 pots/round preflop
