I don't know if anyone here ever reads Daniel Negreanu's blog on danielnegreanu.com but he occasionally mentions something about this thing they do when they're playing a game and they try to narrow down what the card is? something about looking at it some way so you dont know the suit but you see the bars?? I was wonderin if anyone can explain what exactly this is and how to do it. Thanks

I think hes refering to the game a lot of good players play when they are not actively involved in a hand. They are just practicing on reading their opponents' hand.

Card reading - made easy
Against tight players youhave a very good idea of what cards they hold from thier position and preflop activity.
e.g a tight player rarely plays Ax or 78s early but if they have limped in late and something like
9TQ = flop
falls and you bet out with AQ a call from the late/tight limper might put him on: 78, or JT. J8 is unlikely (for a tight player). KJ might happen (so you got to be careful). The odds are the tight player is looking for 6, K, J or T to fall..If one of these cards does fall you have to be wary.. You should be betting on all streets in such a way as to 'probe' the guys strength - by the time the river hits - you should have a pretty good read of what he has...
I don't know if thid guy Negreanu meant it like this - never heard of him...

card reading
Okay, I found the topic on his site that discusses it... what I meant by it you'll soon understnad, I didn't mean as to reading what another player is holding, it has to do with the cards in your hand. Here's the excerpt from the danielnegreanu.com:
""nothing across" gave me a one in three chance of making my hand. I then looked at the left corner of the card and saw a spot. Now I was 50-50, it was either a 2 or a 3.
For those of you totally confused by what I'm talking about it's called squeezing. Instead of just looking right at the card you caught you add "drama" to it by narrowing down the possibilities of what it could be.
By lifting the card slightly you can narrow down what it might be. For example if you see a line, then you know it's a paint card (K, Q, J). If you see no points on the card then it has to be an Ace, 2, or a 3. If you see two points on the card you know it has to be either a 4, or a 5. Three points, would be a 6, 7, or an 8 and finally a four across being a 9 or a 10"
This is what I meant, it seemed a little vague in terms of how to squeeze.another day, another dollar
