I've read a few books on poker, and I consider myself to be a decent player, I've made about $1,000 playing online. I can't determine whether it is luck or skill. I try only to play quality hands. I play Limit, usually 1/2 or 2/4. But recently it seems I just keep losing, especially on the river. I use Royal Vegas. Basically I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong becuase recently I went broke playing. I only had $100 in my account and as I said I like playing the 1/2 limit and 2/4 limit becuase theres not as many people playing crap. Are all the sites the same in terms of what cards come up, because it seems to me a lot of people catch crazy crap on the river. Also what do you think my roll should be to play 1/2 and 2/4? Thanks

100 is way too little, i wouldnt play higher than .25/.5 with that amount, a 50BB down swing is nothing.

Totally in agreement with Beavis I personally have lost $100 playing 2/4 in a half hour before.
and remember if you are up $1000 and lose your entire $100 bankroll you are still up $900. there is nothing wrong with your play but there is a major flaw in your bankroll and game selection in relationship to your bankroll. being a good poker player involves away from the table skills as well.Read my musings on poker and life at Online Poker Examiner, Poker Examiner, PokerNewsBoy.com, and My Poker Blog

my issue is personally i find that the people who play .25/.50 don't really care about good play, it just seems to me that i can't really raise a pot to get out the crap, i could go in with AA and raise preflop but its only 1 more bet to call, its only .50 cents so people will play somethin like 48suited. I like NL but at the same time I can't really afford a decent bankroll at that.

OK when your getting pot equity of 60% vs 4 players, what you just stated is a VERY GOOD thing. Its called playing with an edge. Learn it, Love it.

AA is the best hand against 1 opponent and it is the best hand against 9 opponents, raise it for value not to trim the field

This is why I think limit is a harder game to play in the long run. At least in NL you can be running bad but still pull off some key bluffs and be at even. As far as I know, it's much much harder to make moves in limit. Maybe I'm wrong.

I prefer limit way much more than NL. Mainly becuase it is a grind. Beats don't hurt, because you know you will eventually get them. In NL, a bad beat can take your entire stack and put you so far on Tilt that you can't play anymore. Yes limit is boring, but thats why I five table. And you can bluff in Limit, you just gotta smarter then them.

I hear there's alot more money to be made in limit. Is NL spread as a cash game more now because of its popularity? If not, I gotta learn limit =(
