Default what keeps you mentally fit?

    poker wise obv.
edit: i need to explain this more.

ok so i know alot of people on this forum are very consistent with their winnings, they know how to play hands, obstain from tilt, BR management ect. ect.

but recently i have been having trouble keeping my mentality about poker as well as my mood on a consistent, even keel.

so i guess my question is how do YOU keep yourself mentally fit for poker?

ideas and suggestions are very welcome

This is something I'm really trying to work on just now. I have many problems when it comes to having the right mindset. I'm incredibly competitive and so am very (probably too) harsh on myself at times, and a bad day at poker tends to affect my daily life, ie. a good session puts me in a good mood for the next day while a bad session makes me a miserable git. Things that have helped me are:

    - It's always good to have breaks from poker every now and again to clear your head and maybe get a new perspective on things.
    - I do lots of reading/studying about poker, I probably put in many more hours reading and posting here as I do playing. This seems to help me be more relaxed at the tables.
    - I'm reading the poker mindset. Seems pretty good so far.
    - Have something else you can do to get away from poker.
    - If you suffer a bad beat, shut your eyes and count to 10. Works wonders.
For Free Money, Rakeback and some 6x Ongame bonuses, I recommend PokerSource.

I recommend Cardrunners for superb poker coaching. It was honestly the single biggest improvement in my game signing up there! Sign-up fee might seem steep, but it pays itself back within weeks.

The thing I find hardest is being patient, as in, waiting for good hands patient.

I find myself playing shit like Q5 a few hours into a session and donking off my profits.

Do you think multi-tabling would help with this? More stuff to focus on, less chance of getting bored?

i listen to music most of the time i play. Ive said this before but I play 2 tables of 5$ 45 man sngs at a time. I dont pay attention at all till the first break. Then once the break occurs I start to pay attention. This lets me play accordingly instead of donking around with 96 suited and stupid hands that I should not play...

Some may say not paying attention is bad, but I have poker office running and it tells me who sees a ton of flops so that helps identify the fish...This lets me not get wrapped up in the tournament and I'm able to really focus once 100/200 ante 25 happens...

Admittedly I've done pretty well with it recently, in spite of being kicked in the nuts by variance. Losing $150 in less than an hour and dropping down a level didn't affect me one bit.

Still something I'm working on though.

Background noise. I know a lot of people like to play with no distractions, no noise, but for me...it just makes me overanalyze everything.
