Default How To Deal with chasers?

    Hello all,

Someone please tell me the answer to the following question...

How do you deal with people chasing cards? I don't have a large bankroll so all I can play are the low stakes games. I started out in the lowest tables 1c/2c and have progressed up to 5c/10c as my pathetic little bankroll has increased. The problem is I keep running into people that will chase cards no matter what I do. Particularly flush draws.

What I have been doing is trying to bet them out, but it doesn't really work. Most people I come across will go all in on a flush draw on the flop hoping the flush comes on the turn or the river. I know they will because I have tested it.

So what do I do? This sort of thing has knocked my bankroll over and over again, just when I think I'm getting somewhere it happens again. Partly my own fault because it makes me so angry and tilt and I lose everything.

Is it just because I'm only playing in low stakes games or does this happen across the board? I don't really want to make a large deposit to try play higher stakes because I feel this is something I should work up to with experience rather than blowing my money.

Any advice welcome, more the better.

Nothing you can do but go in with the best of it. If you keep getting them all-in and all they have is a flush draw in the long run you'll be ahead...all the advice I can offer

ps. What was the size of your BR when you moved up in limits?

The most I have had was just over $400. I have been up and down constantly, anywhere from broke to $200. In the most recent case I had about $50 and was buying in with $5 which is probably a bit too much.

I appreciate your response and know what you are trying to say that by giving them the incorrect odds "in the long run" I will end up in front, but there must be another method to combat this.

You can't keep pushing all in, or making ridiculously large bets as soon as there are suited cards on the board because it kills the opportunity to win a good pot when you do have the opportunity by chasing everyone out. And playing tight those opportunities don't come around often enough. In the end you either
    1. win the pot because you bet everyone out and they all fold resulting in a small payout for a big hand or
    2. end up with a string of bad beats from donkeys who call you on their draw.
In the end I find the losses from the bad beats far outweigh the wins, hence why I cant get anywhere in this game! LOL. Does that make any sense? Don't get me wrong, I still consider myself a donkey but I try to play smart which doesn't seem to pay off.

I have heard stories of players keeping the pot small when they feel someone is on a draw.

Anyone care to comment on this strategy?

You can't bluff them out (you probably already realize this) and just understand that sometimes they will hit and more often they will not so if you play it right the odds will be in your favor. The key thing is not to tilt or if you do then take a break, that's where you can really hurt your BR.

If they have a flush draw on the flop they've got roughly a 35% chance of making it by the river... call it 1/3 times. If you're getting a pot sized bet (or close to) off them on the turn and river and they miss 2/3 times, you're still making a huge profit in the long run.

What you need to realise is that you only remember the suckouts and you dont remember when they miss and fold.

Do you have poker tracker or poker office that you can post some stats up?

    Thanks guys.

    You are right.

    1. I should take a break when I get agro - when I think about it, it's when I'm like that, that I end up losing it all.
    2. I do only remember the bad beats.
I think I can handle one or two bad beats, but it's when I get a string of them like today that I lose my cool. But it has to be expected I guess.

I don't have poker office or anything. I will get it though when I decide to make another deposit. I read that you can get a free licence if you deposit $50 and make 100 FFP's.

Are you trying to get them allin by the river if the draw does not hit the flop/turn?

Call it 1/3 the time and raise 2/3 the time?

with penny poker... you are doomed. Calling a flush draw if you face an all in bet that will cost you 500$ instead of 5$... different story

    or maybe not
