Before reading that thread, I'd have to say it was situational. In a cash game, implied odds are the name of the game. You do not get paid off with AA KK AK etc. You get paid off on random little hands your opponents can't put you on.

Personally, I wouldn't limp K-rag suited from middle position, but I do from late. If I were to play it in middle position, it would just be on rare occasion as a random hand to mix up my tight image. And even then, I'd probably raise 3-4bb...

After reading that thread, I'd have to say that I fear mr ivy doesn't really recognize all the nuances involved in the "ATC" school of poker and probably isn't making as much money as he says...

I think it's only ok if you are 100% sure you can outplay the opponents postflop and not get yourself into a sticky situation when a K hits.

That said, I fold that every time.

This is also what Philivey said. Check your PT Stats if you have PT, if not I'll post mine later. If your most profitable hands over a signifcant sample size differs signifcantly from something like:
AA
KK
QQ
AKs
JJ
AK
TT

I would be amazed. AA should be the most profitable hand for any poker player unless they habitually limp with it and never fold postflop.

I think his play is marginal at best Dan. In certain games it can certainly be profitable to overlimp here with a marginal hand and hope to take the button. To imply that by not making this play you don't understand cash games is laughable.

Definitely agree with you Dan. This guy is one of the reasons that these low level cash games are such easy money a lot of the time. He not only limps with crap like that, but defends his play and thinks he is really fantastic. I agree that the biggest pots I have won have been with suited connectors or smaller PPs hitting sets, but K6s is a bit too crap. There is definitely a reason he is moving down in stakes, probably too many 2 pair losing to higher 2 pair situations that he shouldn't be getting himself into.

And in a lot of the lower cash games you do get paid off with AA, KK and any other big hand because of "pros" like these.

Thank you for your posts lairboy. Keep up with killing any weird poker beliefs like that, because when I first read it (and I am just learning and trying to learn) I actually thought that it wasn't a very good hand to be even limping in on, but I didn't see a rebuttal until now, so I started to think, "maybe I just don't see it"?

Again... keep up the good work.

Have a quick read through this thread. Make that a long read.

You will be happy.
